900mhz system not getting good range?

I built a quarter wave dipole for my 800mw fpv system. It doesn't work very good, I'm using stock antenna on the reciever and the dipole vertically on my flying wing, I can get 1,000 feet before picture is gone, and it goes away in banks. I have a lot invested into the wing, batteries, props, it took three months to build. Is my gear okay or are my antennas junk? I am a ham radio operator and am very active in designing electrical circuits and radios, but antennas really wasn't my thing. Can anyone tell me what to do? I have a spool of copper wire, a soldering iron and tape measure. I need something that will go quarter of a mile without losing signal. Please help me.

Copy paste the link. I got this from them....try channel 1 on your 900Mghz TX/RX... they show out of stock, but email them and they might build a set for you. I get quite a good range with this antennas.
