RE: Turnigy H.A.L. (Heavy Aerial Lift)
I found a great deal on the RCU Classifieds for a like new GoPro Hero2 HD camera and LCD BacPac. It came with a LCD BacPac and a specially made UKPro case similar to a Pelican for great protection. If the camera protective enclosure doesn't work with the QuadFrame gimbal, I can use the completely built LayerLens setup that also came with the package.

The GoPro Hero2 fit very nicely on the QuadFrame gimbal and eliminated the fulcrum issue that I mentioned in post #24.

These are my NAZA setup screens in the Assistant. The last image is the fail-safe when the transmitter is turned off.

RE: Turnigy H.A.L. (Heavy Aerial Lift)
I had a chance to test out my GoPro Hero2 and QuadFrame gimbal combination for the first time. I'm using the NAZA gimbal stabilization and was pretty happy with the result. The flight was about 200' high in 10-15mph winds from the northwest. You can see the Rochester, NY skyline in the background when I rotate. The long white line is the semi-frozen Erie canal.
The video below was downsized for the Web. I'll make a short HD clip next.

Here is a short 39sec clip in 1280x720 resolution showing a 360 degree rotation. The H.A.L. was about 200' high in 10-15mph winds.

Help...
My H.A.L. was outfitted with the HK [link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__23792__9_Mode_Multi_Colour_Multi_Function_LED_st rip_with_Control_Unit.html]Multi Function LED Strip[/link] which has 9 different LED modes controlled by a spare switch on the transmitter. The combination of front LEDs and the rear plastic ball drastically improved my flight orientation at a distance.
I also added some foam walls to protect my 5.8AH 4s Lipo pack from the 35 degree temperature. It seemed to work well for the entire 9-minute flight. I also changed my 5.8GHz FPV antennas to the circular polarized [link=http://www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=40&products_id=1058]SpiroNET Antenna Set[/link] from ImmersionRC. The circular polarization reduces interference and unwanted multi-path signals.
I haven't gotten my GoPro2 camera yet but I will post some video from by backyard flight.

Greg i need help, my hal quad with the naza-M FC has crashed, i will copy-paste you what i posted on RCG. See if you can help me.
Hi there, receantly my Turnigy H.A.L. quadcopter crashed and i really can find why.
I havent look extensively through the forum yet.
Here is my setup.
Turnigy HAL Frame.
NTM 3530 with 10x4.5 props
Futaba 8 fg receiver
HK quad distribution board
NAZA-M flight controller (No gps)
4S 8000 25C Zippy battery
HK SS series 40-50A esc (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idproduct=6459)
DIY gimbal with hd wingcam (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s..._5mp_cmos.html)
The gimbal is powered with 2200 NiMh 6V
Hoverfly gimbal controller
7v mini cctv camera (http://www.rangevideo.com/index.php/...os-camera.html)
2.4 ghz Video transmitter (http://www.rangevideo.com/index.php/...ansmitter.html)
Electrifly 1100 mAh 7.4 Lipoly battery for cctv camera and video tx
At the moment the quad was weighing 3.1 kgrs
Ok, the facts were that i was flying and suddenly the quad made a hard pitch nose up, like if it was going to make a flip. Its very crazy because i just was controlling hover, i did not do any sudden move at all. And well after this it crashed.
After crashing i start to think what could be the possible couse of this crash, and since it was not the first flight (in fact it was like the 30th flight) i discard the flight controller, and i came up with the hipothesys that the possible cause was a malfunction of the ESCīs, something like that the flight controller needed to make a correction and given the big weight of the quad, the esc just could not handle the load an stop functioning.
With this hipothesys i made a test, involving the motors (without the prop), the power distribution board and the escīs: ALL WORKED FLAWLESSLY.
I check on hobbyking that the engine maximum load was 18 amps, and the esc could handle load of until 50Amps, so the esc can handle perfectly the load from the engine...
So, i havent done some more tests, and i am very confused.
I read somewhere here in RCG that there is a relation between the Motor-2-motor length, the weight and the stability.
Bot until now, i am somehow lost...

Thank you.

Hey man, I just got done building my H.A.L but I don't like the landing gear. I want something simple for now like the talons you show in the pics above.
Can you please tell me what those are called or where you got them?
Can you get them in the states or will I have to order from China?
Also, if I did continue using the default landing gear for the HAL, were you able to secure it to the frame ok? Looks like the only thing holding it in
is one tiny screw/nut.
Thanks

This message is for Greg Covey, I wanted to know where you got the talon looking landing gear for the HAL build?
See attached image for reference. I just finished building my first quad with the HAL frame but the landing gear sucks so I wanted to try the ones you used. Thanks
