Bind and Fly from Horizon-Work with 14MZ Futaba Module?
I'm getting back into the hobby after a hietus for a few years after the birth of my daughter.
I know that there was a firmware update to my 14MZ that allowed me to bind to JR receivers on 72 if I remember correctly.
I have a large investment in 72 technology from years past and don't plan on changing out everything en-masse like a lot of people seem to be doing. It's just going to be cost prohibitive over the short run with no discernable advantages as far as I can see. I just can't see "giving away" my 72 stuff on eBay to replace it all with 2.4. Not right now, anyway.
What I would really like to do is buy the module for my 14MZ (2.4 FAAST or Spectrum?) and be able to buy some of the great new Bind and Fly stuff available from both GP and Horizon and fly them with my 14. I'm assuming the GP stuff will work. Is that true? What about the Horizon stuff? Cross platform compatible like the 72 stuff is?
ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-bob

Hi bob,
2.4Ghz is not cross compatible between manufacturers. The update that you are speaking of does of course let you use Positive shift to use the equipment you now own.

Thanks Krysta. After a long hiatus, it's good to see you and Bax still around. It's nice to have good folks dedicated to the hobby and their jobs that obviously enjoy what they do.
I took your indirect advise and ordered the FAAST module for my 14MZ.
One more quick question, if I may. What's the difference between the module I'm ordering and the new 14MZ with the module already there? Is it essentially the same radio? No extra wires or anything to "junk" things up, right?
Thanks again!

If you have a 14MZ transmitter on 72 MHz, and plug in the 2.4 GHz FASST module, you have the same transmitter as if you purchased the 14MZ transmitter with the 2.4 GHz FASST system. You just plug in the module, go into the "Frequency" section of the Model Menu and set it to the FASST mode of your receiver and you're "good to go"!
