Can The GY401 Be Used Without The Remote Gain?
Hi Bax and Krysta,
I'd like to use a new spare GY401 I have to put on the nosegear of a jet, my question and situation is this.... I use a 14MZ with a 14Ch RX onboard in this particular jet with every available servo port used up.
Do I need to buy a GY240 because I don't have an open port on the RX to plug in the remote gain?
Can the 401 be used in this situation by 'pre-programming' the gain?... BTW, I do want to avoid using 'Y' leads and/or the competition's MatchBoxes on control surfaces to free-up an RX port for GY401 gain control.
**EDIT**... The gyro will ONLY be used in rate mode (for the nosewheel), not AVCS.
Thanks for any advice you can give. [8D]

RE: Can The GY401 Be Used Without The Remote Gain?
The first time you use it, it has to be set up in AVCS using gain, but once you do that you can put the gyro back to normal mode and then NOT use the gain.
The gyro has to initialize in AVCS the first time.

Thanks Krysta, I really do appreciate the help you and Bax offer. [8D]
Just to be clear on this, I'll only have to do that procedure once.... from then on, all I have to turn on the RX on any given day without the gain wire plugged it and it will be as I 'programmed' it initially?

The gyro must be in AVCS mode each time you power uo, then you can turn it onto rate mode, not really what you are looking for.
Another option is to grab a Futaba MPDX-1 (Tower Hobbies or like), plug that into channel 12 on you rx, select MP1 in the function menu for channel 12and you now have another 7 channels to play with. These additional channels work great for 1 maybe 2 servo's at a time but work perfect for low current functions such as driving electronic air valves and gyro gains.
I use them in mu jets to run items such as sequencers etc, you can actually plug 2 of them in and get 26 proportional channels all with ATV etc.
