Default S9551 servo question

I have been using these servos in my turbine helicopter, but find that they need replacement very often. They simply stop working - mainly on the fore and aft swash plate movement (elevator). This could be due to heat as the heli mechanics are inside a scale fuselage.

I now again need to stock up on servos and was wondering what others are using and would suggest.

This is if course a low profile servo and perhaps the Futaba BLS551 is just the same servo with a new label.

Thank you for your help.

I'm curious what voltage you are running. Having a number of the same servos just stop working is very odd. Did you send any in to your local service center? The 9551 is only rated for 6 volt systems and should not be used with higher voltage systems.

The BLS551 is not the same servo. First, it is a brushless servo which is a very different kind of servo. The motors last far longer.

Now, having said that, the BLS551 is primarily aimed at the car market and I'm not sure I'd use it in a heli.

For a low profile servo I might look at the S9170 or the BLS174.

And this forum is a direct Futaba vendor support forum, you might ask this is a more general forums or a heli specific forum to get a general sense from that community of what they are using.

Bill,

Thank you for your answer and suggestions. I am running 5.5volt so that should not be the problem. I will take a look at the two servos you have suggested.

Cheers,
