New 18MZ not WC
Please tell me when I updated the software on the new radio I keep getting the message (Update Failure - the update files are not compatible with the transmitter), but after looking at the information on the radio the Editors version is 2.7.2 and the Encoder version is 2.2? On Futaba's site it shows it should be Editors version 2.7.2 and Encoder version 2.3, would that be because it isn't a WC??

Yes I'm using a iMac 27 with the latest OS, I believe I know where your going with this but I have watched Youtube Videos showing the very thing I'm doing? I used a Fat formatted SD and then put it in before doing the update and never got what I believe was suppose to happen was it asking me to formate the SD in the 18MZ, but it did put all the files on the SD, that being BMP, LOG, MODEL etc.
Thanks you for replying,
Steve

First off, I am a Mac guy end to end. Having said that, it has been my experience that the 18MA, 18SZ, and 16SZ simply will not update correctly if the files are done using a Mac. The 14MZ worked fine. My 18MZ did not from Day One.
I am running Windows on my Macs using Bootcamp. If you do not have that I suggest you find a Windows machine and download and unzip the files on that machine. Then copy the required file folder onto the SD card.
There is no need to format the card. I never have with the 14MZ, 18MZ, 18SZ or 16SZ.
The bottom line is the updates simply do not work reliably using a Mac. The files must be downloaded and unzipped using a windows machine. I have complained about this but so far no changes.
I live half the time in Ladera Ranch, where are you flying? I fly mostly at OCMA/Black Starr behind Irvine Lake.

Bill,
Same here on the Mac but have never needed to use bootcamp but there is a first for everything. I used to fly 1/5 WWII planes then went into scale Heli's all alone flying gliders so I mainly fly scale gliders and moldies out of Point Fermin, Torrey Pines and Long Beach but also have a few heli's left. Like Mac I only fly Futaba and have had great luck with my current 14 MZ and was a little surprised with the 18 MZ even after watching videos and believed it to the task of current systems, but that is Windows for ya? Maybe you could answer a few question if you don't mind? The smoothness of the slide trims from the 14 to the 18 are night and day, is there a way to take the heavy ratchet out of the slides, is there any adjustment? I assume that per your previous statement I would believe that working with the JPEG file has the same problem, as I moved some file on to the SD set at the correct pixels and got a warning box in Japanese showing a pixelated picture? Can JPEGs only be used from the onboard camera?
Thanks again,
Steve

The 18MZ does not handle jpegs. Not sure the format of the internal camera but if you load another image it has to be in .bmp format. There is also a max size of 168x80 pixels. I used to make custom model names with a graphics program and load them onto the 18MZ. Looked better than a photo.

Bill,
Ya the internal camera makes them into JPEGs dimension 480 x something? Ya understand on the pixels, was hoping for a better solution than .BMP. But was surprised how well the little camera works at 3mp. The smoothness of the slide trims from the 14 to the 18 are night and day, is there a way to take the heavy ratchet out of the slides, is there any type of an adjustment?
Regards,
Steve

Fair enough. I found mine only liked .bmp format.
On the sliders, and I just realized this myself, you have to open up the TX. Take the plastic piece off at the top around the antenna. Take the battery out. Then take off the rubber pads on the back. Then you will see 6 or 8 (I forget) small screws to remove. The back pops off then.
Once that is out of the way, and it sounds worse to do than it is, you'll see on each slider that there is a small screw that adjusts the tension on the flat spring on the slider.
