Default 12fg to 18sz model converter on the 18sz.

Hello all.I am an avid futaba 12fg user with fast moulded gliders using many conditions.I have over 30 models and want to change radios from a 12fg to an 18sz.Recently i saw in the software version 3.1 information that the 18sz radio can do this if you put a 12fg model on an SD card and put it in the 18sz....Has anyone done this successfully and does it covert all the conditions and special mixes as this is whats stopping me buying a 18sz at present. If I knew it would do it I will buy an 18sz after 10 yrs of superb use from my 12fg..Thanks.

P.S document attached that says its possible ,see version 3.1 info. number 4 Data converter.
PPS ..Is this a total perfect conversion is really my main question as the document says its possible. Can you confirm its as good a conversion (perfect) like it was on my buddies 8fg to 14sg...all the conditions, mixes, sub trim, endpoints, etc ,etc, worked perfectly i mean.

I think you may have misread that. The internal converter will convert from the 14SG to the 18SZ. I am not aware of any conversion from the 12FG directly into the 18SZ. SO I believe you have to do it by hand. The good news is the menu is very easy to navigate and the values in the 12FG should be identical, or very close, to the 18SZ.

Thanks Bill,I am even more confused now!..On page 2 of the 14 page PDF document I attached on my first post,Under the software update of 3.1 version, it clearly states, half way down under the title" 4. Data Converter " FX-30 and T12FG have been added to the data converter compatible models. The transmitter name is displayed on Icon." It then shows a picture of the 18sz screen with a FX-30 Model 1 in the middle of the list.Well the fx-30 and T12fg are the same software...What do you think?

If I have to reprogram 30 moulded gliders with 4 conditions and all the mixes I would be dead before finishing! Please tell me its possible ,the booklet says so..can you ?

FG

Sorry, I missed that. In that case, then yes, with that version of software installed when you try to copy a 12FG model into the 16SZ/18SZ it will ask you if you want to convert it. I suggest that while I have heard of very few issues with the conversions you should still always confirm that everything si as it should be.

Thanks Bill...yes I would always check first before flying...I don't even mind correcting a few issues, if there were any, but if most of the hard work is done for me then I now can get a few years back for flying rather than programming...Thanks again..FG

Update for Bill and everyone.......Superb news for everyone with a 12fg....It works 12FG models convert perfectly on a 16/18sz radio.

I borrowed a friends 16sz(same software as 18sz)and loaded/converted one of my 12fg, 4 servo wing Fully moulded glider model memory's(RCRCM Vector 3 for info) with lots of special mixing and 4 conditions/flight modes (switchable model memory setups for the general flyer) and it all worked.....Perfectly....I am the happiest man alive today.

I updated his software version to 3.5 Europe first as it was on version 3.0Europe when he bought it.
Secondly, for info, this is the radio I put/converted 14sg models successfully on 6 months ago but didn't realize the 12fg fix was released......

Thanks Bill for your time.....18sz here I come Forrest Gump.

Default 12fg to 18sz

I am I correct in what I am reading here, the 18sz has an internal converter ??? I can take a model from my 12fg (sd card) and insert it into the 18sz and it will ask if I want to convert it ???

No need to use the external conversion software ???

Cheers Chris

Not that I am aware of. The good thing is all the basic programming is the same and the values in the SZ will apply to the MZ. And as always, trust, but verify.
