Default Advice for Elevon mix with Futaba 8J

Have a question about using Elevon mix to control a tracked vehicle. Did a bit of searching here and found some good info, but have further questions for those of you that have been able to work this out.

For my current project, I am attempting to use a Futaba 8J for single stick control. Using Elevon mix, it seems to function well, except for turns in reverse, which seem to go opposite the stick direction.

Stick Position vs Vehicle Direction
12:00 Full Forward
10:30 Left Turn Forward
09:00 CCW Spin
07:30 *Turns in Reverse, but toward the 04:30 direction
06:00 Full Reverse
04:30 *Turns in Reverse, but toward the 07:30 direction
03:00 CW Spin
01:30 Right Turn Forward

Thinking about it in terms of an Elevon on an aircraft, it would seem to have the correct roll direction in all cases, but seems like the mix would need to be slightly different for a tracked vehicle. Is there a way to tweak the mix, or is there another/better solution.

Thank You!

Way outside my ballpark. You might do better searching for a forum specific to that type of vehicle and see what others are doing. Sorry, I don't have any suggestions for you.

Thanks for having a look!

Fwiw, the 8J manual mentions this usage on page 53, but I can't quite seem to make it work correctly.

All I can think of is playing with the mixing values, both amount and +/- to see if you can get what you want.

I've pretty much exhausted that experimentation, to no avail. I can get it very close, but there's always on area where it doesn't mix properly.

Fairly sure this can be done, possibly with a custom mix rather than the canned Elevon mix.

Thanks again!

Sorry, I just don't know enough about your particular application to be more helpful. Are there any forums specific to that interest area where you might get some more info?

Yeah, I asked over there first, and they sent me over here...

No worries. I'll set it up as a 2-stick and work on a 1-stick solution later.

Thanks again!

2 stick would be the way I would go too.

I'd love to be able to run other devices from the left stick, so 1-stick drive would be ideal for this project. I'm going to run it 2-stick, and work out the 1-stick solution on the bench.

This can be accomplished very easily but first, you need to clear up a few points .....

12:00 Full Forward - both outputs can only ever be 50% at full forward
10:30 Left Turn Forward - both outputs will be at 100%, only when the stick is in the corner
09:00 CCW Spin - both outputs can only ever be 50% , but in opposite directions
07:30 *Turns in Reverse - both outputs will be at 100%, only when the stick is in the corner
06:00 Full Reverse - both outputs will be 50% at full reverse
04:30 *Turns in Reverse - both outputs will be at 100%, only when the stick is in the corner
03:00 CW Spin - both outputs will be 50% , but in opposite directions
01:30 Right Turn Forward - both outputs will be at 100%, only when the stick is in the corner

Now you need to confirm the direction when turning ????

10:30 Left Turn Forward -
moves forwards and to the front turns to the left ?
07:30 Turns in Reverse - moves rewards and to the front turns to the right ?
04:30 Turns in Reverse - moves rewards and to the front turns to the left ?
01:30 Right Turn Forward - moves forwards and to the front turns to the right ?

Once we know these perimeters, it will be very easy to set up a simple mix between the 2 channels to make it all work.

I've switched to 2-Stick to get my project up and running, but now I need to convert the left stick of my T8J to self centering. Can you walk me through how/where to get parts for this? Thanks!

@modtron
Sorry I missed this post, apparently I don't have my subscription set correctly.
When I get a chance to hook it back up and try 1-stick, I will revisit.
Thank You!

I would contact the service department to see if they can answer that for you. I do not know your location, so I cannot tell you which is closest. In the USA it is:
