Default T18SZ Reflecting Sunlight into your face

I see where now the T18SZ has a black panel on the front where it says "T18SZ". Mine has the prismatic chrome looking one that is terrible for reflecting the sun right back into your eyes. Anyone know whether this piece can be obtained as a replacement part and whether you can do this yourself?

As I noted on Facebook, the photo shows the 18SZ 70th Anniversary Edition. It actually has more chrome than the regular 18SZ. Contact service to see if they can get you the small faceplate from the 70th Anniversary edition.

I have now contacted them and await their answer. The standard faceplate is really bad about reflecting severe sunlight glare right back into your face. I would highly recommend that all T-18SZs, at least from this point forward, be supplied with the black one as on the 70th Anniversary one.

I've flown my 18SZ in all over California, Nevada, Colorado and Arizona and the reflection has never been an issue for me. Must be the way I hold it.Let me know what they say about the replacement part.

Still haven't heard from Futaba about the replacement part.

I am guessing this issue has a lot to do with the direction the flightline faces. Our flightline faces northeast so, from late morning until very late in the afternoon, beginning this time of the year, the sun is in a position either directly above the flightline or coming over your shoulder as it moves slightly behind the person on the flightline. I do not use a tray or neckstrap. The bottom of the transmitter rests on the abdomen and is held in a slightly upward attitude.

I think that replacement part is the ideal quick and easy solution.
