Default 12MZ Question

Please just delete this post, you obviously will not let anyone express an opinion or question outside of Futaba political correctness. I realize this is your forum and you can do as you please, this post along with follow-ups and how to's has been moved to a more neutral forum.

Hello, I have a question about my 12Z. I have followed all the post about being able to change the physical switch locations but not having the software recognize the change of a 2 position to a 3 postion. I purchased my radio through a local hobby shop and the only radio they had was the airplane version, no big deal as all the advertising states that switches can be moved. Well I fly heli's and this is a huge deal as I can't fly with idle up on the right. I keep seeing Futaba reps say it will be fixed soon. but some of these post are 3 months old. Where is the fix for this. I have seen alot about bringing up the test menus with the t12ztest.ini file but I want this fixed the right way and sending it to the service center is obsurb when it is advertised that this can be done. It is public knowledge that we can access the service menus, why not post the instruction on what the pages and steps are to change switch positions in the software. Is there a software update available? What is the latest version?

Hi Dave,

Unfortunately, the initial advertising for the 12Z was incorrect regarding the ability to change the switches. We have asked Futaba of Japan to provide an upgrade for this but as yet, they have not done so. If they decide to offer this upgrade to the software it will be posted immediately.

In regards to the exec file that is floating around the internet, we strongly recommend no one use this as it has not been approved by the manufacturer and use of this will void your warranty if damage occurs because of it.

We will not provide instruction to the public on the use of a hacked file. We only endorse our own software updates.

Sincerely,

Thank you for the reply but this is still not a solution. So I have to send my radio in? Is this service free? What about shipping? I am sorry that a product was advertised wrong but now what are my options? I can't return it to where I bought it. Also lets talk about the setup utility. They setup software is already in the radio. You are calling it with a text file on a compact flash card and telling the radio to run a program that is loaded at the factory in firmware. You are not running any software that is externally executable. Honestly the screens are very basic and straight forward, the only hangup is that this has the ability to change settings like frequency and region which in the US is a big FCC no no. Also it totally defeats the password feature of the radio. Honestly I would have to say Futaba was foolish to have this software pre installed on the radios, it screams lawsuit when someone does something stupid later. Don't get me wrong I am a diehard Futaba supporter and being in Arizona I get the privilage to fly with some of your best. I just feel this is one Futaba needs to own up to and get fixed. I am curious what the latest version is of the 12z software and if there are any updates that correct other minor issues.

This cannot be. I recently purchased a 12Z, two extra receivers, and an extra battery. I had two reasons for picking the 12Z, 12 channels and the ability to move switches to where I choose. The radio has never been installed, will Futaba buy it back?

Dean,
I wish I had more time to discuss this right now but in a nut shell krysta deleted my other posts in this thread and stopped responding to emails. No need to return your 12mz the radio has been completely hacked (edited: figured out hacked is a bad word.) and a lot of features found, including total switch assignability. Are you decent with computers? The radio beats the 14mz hands down in ergonomics cost and no fingerprints on the screen. Contact me and we can get more into this.

IF you need to move switches around, the transmitter needs to come into the service center to have the programming reset so that the transmitter recognizes the new switch positions.

Hi,

You can move the switches by your own but you have to enter the service programme of the transmitter.
Just make a simple text file with nothing inside but with name T12ZTEST.ini then put it in a CF card then start your transmitter with it inside.

You just have entered the service area where you can change switches place but also calibrate stick, change region, band....

Isn’t that cool !!!
Thanks to Raf, lol

Bye

Dear Krysta Hunt,

I wanted to PM you but could not find the PM icon in your earlier post, so i'm typing in this thread itself.

I got myself a Futaba 12Z radio with a bergen helicopter. Now the radio arrived in Mode-2 but I fly Mode-1.

I am aware and have done lot of mode changes in your earlier futaba radio like the 9CAP, 7CAP and 6XAS radios. But can i do the change in mode for the Futaba 12Z radio too. If so is it the same procedure as the above mentioned radios?

After physically changing the springs in the radio, how do i change the mode in the software of the radio.

I'm from India and i'll thers is no service centre of Futaba in my country.

I tried writing a mail to your customer service, but so far no reply. Kindly help.

Regards,
