Default 12Z Vanishing Model Memory - HELP!

I just received my new 12Z the other day. I am hoping to replace all my other radios (8U, 9C, 9CS, and 9Z) with this one. Thursday I set up a flying wing as my first attempt with the new radio. It was hard but I did it and it flies. Friday I set up my Charger RC CR-1 and it went a lot better since I learned alot about the radio from doing the wing. I set it up with ATV, AFR, Dual Rates, Expo, etc ... It took me a couple hours to figure it all out but I finally did. I also did a condition for knife edge flying too. I even named my conditions, "Normal" and "Knifedge". I also set up 2 timers, one of them a countdown timer for 7 minutes activated by the throttle stick position I set and the other was a count up timer I set to turn on with the left slider. Being it is an electric plane I wanted to be able to track my entire flight duration as well as "power on" time so I can land when I know the battery needs to be recharged. I took the plane out Saturday morning and it flew great. The triple rates (AFR, DR1, DR2) worked great and my expo settings were nice too. I flew several flights, switching in and out of my knife edge condition as well. It worked flawlessly. After flying I put everything away and went home, loving my new radio. Saturday night I sat down with the radio to begin putting another model into the radio. It was my Magic Formula 3D. A glow powered plane I have been flying with my 9Z for a year. I chose a "new" model memory and began the process. I only got as far selecting Model type, Wing type, Tail type, setting receiver mode and frequency, setting the Functions the way I wanted them and renaming the model to "Magic - 3D", I activated and assigned DR1 and 2 switches and positions and then renamed Condition 1 to Normal again as I did with the CR-1. At this point I was ready to turn on the airplane to begin the Reversing, Subtrims, ATV (endpoints) and so on. It was late so I decided to wait to finish this another time. The following morning (Sunday), since I had 2 other planes already set up and ready to go (the flying wing and my CR-1) I went out to fly them. When I got to the field the radio was still set on the Magic Formula 3D memory from the night before. So I simply went into the Linkage menu and over to Model Select. There were all three choices, The Wing, The CR-1 and the Magic. I scrolled up to the CR-1 and highlighted it then scrolled over to Select. I selected it and then went back to the Main Screen. I proceeded to plug in my battery into the ESC and waited for the normal boot up sounds. It never happened. I thought somehow my throttle channel got reversed on me so I went in to check it in the Reversing menu. Sure enough ... it had changed. Then I realized not only had the throttle changed but ALL of them had changed. All back to the default settings. Fearing the worst, I went into the Function menu and there too, everything was back to default. I soon realized that EVERYTHING was gone and somehow reset back to factory default settings. My Knifedge condition was gone, EVERYTHING. Everything except the Name of the model .... CR-1 and the frequency/mode (38, ppm) was gone! VANISHED.

As I understand it, the only thing that could have caused this was if someone were to go into the Data Reset menu and scroll down to the last option and select it and then verify that you really wanted to reset this data and then actually saying Yes by pressing the button again. Until all this happened, I had not even been to that menu selection before. I thought about the Delete button on the Model Select screen but if you accidentally press that button EVERYTHING including the Model Name gets deleted. So I know I didnt inadvertently do that either.

It seems the entire program which took me several hours to input on Friday just vanished. I was wondering if you had heard of anything else like this occurring and what I might consider doing to prevent this in the future.

Thank you,
Charles

Hi cfv007,

This was discovered in one other transmitter that we know of. We have contacted Japan regarding this.

In the meantime to bypass this problem, do not pick a frequency when creating a new model, you can go back and select this later. This will allow the radio to save your new setup.

Sorry but I'm not sure what you mean. When I activate a new model memory, it already has the frequency selected. Whatever the last frequency was prior to selecting the new model becomes the frequency of the new model memory. Then if I need to change it I do it later during the program setup.

Also .. it wasn't a new model memory that disappeared, it was a model memory I had spent hours setting up and had flown with several times. I don't understand.

At this point "I chose a "new" model memory and began the process. I only got as far selecting Model type, Wing type, Tail type, [b]setting receiver mode and frequency[b], setting the Functions the way I wanted them and renaming the model to "Magic - 3D",

You want to NOT set the mode and freqency, but skip this and save this portion of the set up for later.

This happens only when you are PPM or PCM. Futaba Japan has been advised of this and will be sending us a new update for the transmitter to resolve this issue.

Default RE: 12Z Vanishing Model Memory - HELP!

Oh ... Ok ... I think I understand now. So it was because, when setting up the Magic Formula 3D in the radio, I selected it's frequency. By doing this it caused the CR-1 model memory to vanish. And the CR-1 was the model I had setup the day before I started on the Magic.

So if I understand correctly, in the future, as I set up a new model, skip the step where I would normally assign the frequency (do this later on) or else the previous model memory stands a chance of being erased.

I think we are on the same page now right? Whew ... I feel a bit better now that I understand whats going on with my radio.

Thank you for the help and I hope the software fix will be coming along soon!

Exactly :-))

Sorry for the problems, but as soon as there is a new update received it will be posted on the FFC site.

Take care, Krysta
