Default Are Hitech servos problematical with Futaba 2.4Ghz

I have just purchased and received four new HS-65MG servos. I got them because I had used one very succesfully in a small park fly model with the Futaba system employing a R6008HS receiver and there were no problems. (Only one of these servos was used in fact because I had found it in my servo draw and decided to use it as it was a better spec than the one that was already fitted) It worked a treat. Nice and fast with excellent centering.
I consequently bought four more because of the experience with that one.
Not so lucky it seems. The servos were fitted in my Angel 30S and upon switch on they jittered ferociously but mainly the elevator and the rudder not quite as bad. I suspected the BEC since this was the only thing in my system not previously used. No joy. I changed the receiver. . No joy. I checked the receiver was switched to the normal analogue servo mode . . Checked fine with both receivers.
Try different servos (costing about a 1/10 of the itech ones) . . . No problems.
I tried the Hitech servos on my servo tester . . OK a slight jerk at switch on which is often quite normal but they worked fine. I am now at a loss to consider what else could be faulty.
I have removed all the servos and checked various arrangements but it seems as thouhg it is ALL the servos that kind of vibrate rather than jitter at switch on. It is a very fast movement of a fraction of an inch either way . . just like a faulty potentiometer but that it cannot be as it works OK on the tester.
The only course of action I can see is an expensive one of buying a new Futaba receiver but all my receivers work absolutely flawlessly with all other servos . . . except it appears, with Hitec HS-65MG ones.
Ideas welcome from others particuarly if you have had the same experience.
If I am barking up the wrong tree perhaps someone could enlighten me. I have come to the end of any ideas.
BTW they were also tested on 4.8 and 6V suplies. Both had the same effect.
Should I send them back? Rather not as I have to remove all the arms refit new servos. . .
I look forward to any replies.

To further elucidate - and hope others are spared.
The R6008HS is NOT compatable with the HS-65MG, so I guess it would also apply to the HS-65HB.
I bought another Futaba receiver R617FS which has not got the "High Speed" facility. This proved my suspicion asa they work perfectly.
Moral . . Poor little rich boy syndrome. buy the best and you get problems. Change to the product half the cost and problem solved.
I think Futaba have a duty to point this kind of incompatabilty out but hey. A butcher is not going to shout "Rotten meat" so I guess this is just not going to happen.

Did you try operating the HS receiver in regular mode instead of high-speed mode? Any non-digital servo will have difficulty operating when the receiver is in HS mode.

We have here in the Service Center some HS65MG's and one of the R6008HS receivers. These work fine for us.

Please see the large gray area on your instruction sheet that came with your R6008HS, it is the second paragrahp and it reads:

Using condition on "High Speed mode"
Caution! Outputs from 1ch to 6ch accept the digital servos only or most stype of peripherals.

http://manuals.hobbico.com/fut/r6008...4hs-manual.pdf

When using analog servos, you must have the R6008HS in Non-Digital mode.

Well they didnt for me and others it appears - I spoke to a few people.
I thought I mentioned they were in the non digital mode and I wished that had been the simple solution.

If you are operating the receiver in regular mode, not HS mode, and the non-Futaba analog servos don't operate properly, you may want to ask of the servo maker if there's a difficulty with that servo or if an update is available. You can try checking various Futaba servos to see how they perform. If recent-manufacture Futaba servos have difficulties, then the receiver may have a difficulty. If any Futaba servo works, then your non-Futaba servos have difficulties.

It's very likely that some non-Futaba equipment will not be quite compatible with newer Futaba equipment. Such difficulties would have to be referred to the maker of the non-Futaba equipment. Futaba cannot insure that their equipment will interface with non-Futaba items. There's just too much other stuff out there.

Thanks for the last reply. At least it sounds honest and that is what I expect.
Since most servos are fine and these are not I cannot knock Futaba. Hi-Tech should be a little more up front and say they dont work with all systems. They work fine on the 7channel receiver I got in the hope I could still use them but I dont really understand why that is OK and the HS 8channel isnt. As long as its working fine. The next receiver I buy though will be another 7channel so Futaba are losing out on sales here
I'd rather see them succeed over their rivals.

Hi Nigel,

I use heaps of HS-65's of both types with 6008 and 6106 receivers which have a high speed mode, as well as 608 and 617 receivers which don't. The only problem I've ever had is the obvious one where I set the high speed mode inadvertantly.

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems! I just wanted you to be aware that it isn't a universal issue, you just happen to be the lucky one

Go Great!

Ken.

Default RE: Are Hitech servos problematical with Futaba 2.4Ghz

Would any of Hitec's DIGITAL servos cause a problem with the R6008HS receiver in "hi-speed" mode?

Dear Bill Baxter:

Dave "the PIPE" here...as I've always constructed all my own RC transmitters, due to needing to only use "knobby" single-stick units for flying, I've built the first of two knobby radios for 50 MHz Ham band usage (I've been "KA1ABG" since 1978) based on the encoder unit created by fellow Ham licensee Gordon Anderson, whose webpage is at http://mstar2k.com/ , and with photos of my very first MicroStar 2000 (abbreviated as "MS2K" ) knobby radio based on that amazing encoder viewable at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MP8K/p...87349/pic/list .

By setting the sync pulse timing at 400 µS, and using the "MS2K" default FM shift polarity of a positive shift (what I think is what Futaba uses all over the world, except for US/Canada 72 MHz) the MicroStar 2000 encoder has been used successfully with the TM-8 FASST module before in owner-built RC transmitters, and I'm eventually planning on using a pair of TM-8 RF modules (one for each "knobby box" ) as the signal-sending component of a pair of future owner-built MicroStar 2000-based radios, specially set up for "SpredSpec" 2.4 GHz flying needs, and which, of course, will both be "knobby" single stick units.

I had thought of using the R6008HS Futaba FASST "high speed" receivers, as I'm quite sure you've heard about the problem of "overheated" Futaba FASST receivers, like the earlier R608FS units, sometimes losing their lock on the signals they were locked onto when the receiver's temperature exceeded 59ºC (138ºF) inside of a model aircraft, and I have been hoping that the R6008HS receiver was one that HAD beaten that "59ºC" problem.

Now, for that "high speed" mode...where I DO use Hitec servos myself, and they've got a good line of digital servos of their own, I was wondering...would the Futaba R6008HS receiver's "high speed" channels, that is, channels 1 thru 6, work with a different make of digital servo besides Futaba's own ???

I've had in mind the Hitec HS-5245 digital mini myself (at http://www.hitecrcd.com/products/ser...hs-5245mg.html ) for a 42" (1.07 m wingspan) Bücker Jungmeister's control needs, and a plane like that, for Saito 40 four stroke power, would greatly benefit from the combo of the R6008HS's "high speed" mode, coupled with the HS-5245 programmability from one of Hitec's own servo proggers, when I finally can afford to go "SpredSpec" as well as my usual 50 MHz flying.

Hope to either get an answer here, or by directly Emailing you about it...

Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE !

First off, the Futaba receiver that had a heat limitation of 60-degrees C. was the original R6014FS receiver. The new, R6014HS receiver, and all of the other FASST receivers did not have such a limitation. The R6008HS receiver certainly doesn't have that limitation.

As far as non-Futaba servos working with one of the Futaba receivers in high-speed mode, we can only say that we don't know about specifics. There is no list of non-Futaba equipment that may or may not be compatible. Checking with the maker of the non-Futaba equipment would be the best way to go. In your case, Hitec should be consulted to see. We've not had any specific complaints of modern, digital servos having any difficulties. The operating difficulties with the R6014FS receiver came with older servos designed before the R6014FS receiver was designed. None of the other Futaba receivers had any particular difficulties with properly-designed non-Futaba servos/accessories.

Again, while there is no list of compatible or non-compatible items, we've not heard of difficulties with modern non-Futaba equipment operating with Futaba equipment.
