DLE 30cc ......what size of 3-blade prop?
Hello all. I will be buying a DLE 30cc soon and wanted to get a prop ordered as well. The suggested range is 18X8 to 20X8 2-blade. I was looking into getting a 3-blade Biela, but wasn't sure about the best size and pitch. There are 2 that seem like good candidates.....the 17X10 and 18X10. Would the 17X10 be enough? Would the 18X10 be too much. Since these are kind of expensive props, I'd like to get the correct one the first time. By the way, the engine is for a ESM Stuka (80inch) I just got. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Once you have a two blade prop that you like, the general rule is:
down 10% in diameter, up 10% in pitch. This gives exactly the same load for the engine, provided the blade design is the same.

Thanks much for the suggestions all. I'm going with the 17x10 and will check it out on the bench to make sure that it is enough prop. I'll post what RPM's I get.

Im also have a DLE-30 in my ESMP-51 and I'm wondering if there is anyone who make a scale four blade prop that would work? or is 3 blade as close as you can get in this size range?

It is on a Zenoah G38 and is a 18x10 bolly carbon prop, no longer exists after contacting a light pole and ground. I have since changed over to DLE30 engines as I could not get any parts for the zenoah in this country.
As far as 3 bladed props go I would look at 16x10~17x10 range, you will have to try different ones(brand,size ect.) to get the right one for the engine/airframe combo.
