I have been looking around online and found a Ignition battery eliminating filter from Wike R/C and i was thinking on using them in 2 airplanes. One in my Topflight P-51 with a DLE20 and the other in a Aeroworks 30cc Edge with a DLE30 when it comes out.

Anyone have any luck with the IBEF?

Have a full season's use on one and was pleased enough to buy 2 more for this winter's projects. I have watched current drain carefully, and I am using about 200 ma on a 10 minute flight. The aircraft is a Hangar 9 60-size P-47 with a rcgf 20cc gasser. Am using a Hobbico 5-cell, 2000 ma nickle-metal. All figures are verified from multiple tests.

I like the product but wish I could buy it from somebody other than TBM.

For your information, I tried the IBEF (version 2) with a 5 cylinders moki 250, it doesn't work fine. Not enough energy to the plugs for the engine to run normally.
No problem with my DLE55.

Captain,
Does the Wike's IBEF use an optical kill switch, can't really tell from description information. Got one recently for a DLE 55 and using the HitecAurora 9 Txwith the Optima 9 Rx . The A9 is having issues with optical kill switchs, http://hitecrcd.com/blog/?cat=7. Does the IBEF opticaly kill the ignition or does it shut down power from the Rx to the Ignition? Don't dare flywith this setupuntil I understand more about issue's with the A9 and optical kill switchs. Any info from you guys would sure be appreciated, thanks........

The IBEF does not have an optical switch in it. It turns off power going to the ignition by disabling a switching regulator when the ignition is turn off. I called Hitec about the problem and the guy working on it will be back in the office Monday so I will try him again. They do not know what is happening but only this reported problem had an optical kill switch... I expect it is not my WRC optical kill switch. I am willing to bet that ignition noise is getting into the receiver and causing a cpu reset. Again I have never had this reported with any Wike RC Products devices and my products are specifically designed to prevent ignition noise from getting into the receiver. I am going to try to get them to clarify which brand of optical kill switch is causing the problem.

CaptainJacobs - I can modify an IBEF to work with your five cyclinder if you want one. I need to make a couple of changes for that engine.

No problems I use both the Wike and the 42% Thor (have 2 of each) and prefer the thor only because of the bright blue LED is easily seen, I sometimes have to shade the red LED on the WIKE to see if it's lit. 2 are ran off of JR 921 RXs and two off of power expanders.

I picked up a used plane that has one of the Wike IBEF units in it.
Not usre what version it is, but the instructions I found online say there is an
adjustment for the output voltage by way of a potentiometer.

My IBEF does not have this potentiometer.
Any other way to get the voltage under 6 volts?
Do I need to use a resistor?

There is another thread where someone asked which was the best IBEC. You might want to take a closer look at the discussion there in before making your decision.

We are all opinionated, I think that is just the nature of the beast. Most of the "old hand gas flyers" will say there is no real need for an IBEC. I would point out that it gives me a better safety margin in the set up that I use. I like using dual batteries and switches for redundancy. I can use my IBEC to power the CDI from a spare channel and have remote shutdown available as a bonus. Using this approach I have two batteries independent of each other, as well as two switches both of which are powering my receiver and igntion.

My situation is a bit different than yours.
I'm using the unit in a 30cc plane.
I've been using one battery for the whole plane for about 50 flights now and it's been fine.
I've flown up to 40% planes with all of the redundancy etc. but lately have been simplifying things a bit.

I totally agree on the redundantdual packs and switches! Especially with them bigger, expensive aircraft, added security for minimal investment. I'm using the Wike's IBEF withdual A123's 2300ma and a dual Miracle switchon a DLE 55, no problems.

No offense, but are you serious? You tried using a small IBEC designed for single and maybe 2 cylinder applications and decided to use it on a 5 cylinder engine? No wonder it didn't work! Holy cow- you should be using an complete stand alone ignition system with HD switches, and dual ignition batteries!
