As several of you know, it is almost impossible to find a regular gas can. They all have a safety cap that does not lend itself to adapting a fuel pickup and return fitting.



This nozzle looks like this



And I want to install these fittings



So I took a pocket knife and cut the safety nozzle off right above the cap

While cutting, I also cut the cap locking device off the threaded cap.

What is needed is a flat conventional cap to attach the fueler fittings

You can fashion a round piece of aluminum to fit under the threaded cap to attach your fitting to?

I used the shipping snap on cap cover that came with the can. I cut away everything but the flat top. The very center is where I drilled a hole and mounted the fuel bulkhead fitting for the pick up tube.

The return line was mounted beside the cap area in the red plastic part of the can.

I connected my Tygon fuel line and favorite pump

$7.95 plus tax for the can itself and $4.69 for the fittings.

You can also go to the local parts store or lowes or walmart and buy a gas cap for a lawnmower and it will fit the can thats what i did

I just use a 1 gallon empty glow fuel bottle with the stock cap.

w8ye that is exactly what I did for my two gas cans. They ended up costing little or nothing compared to the ones sold by hobby shops.
A guy at our field bought one of those 12 volt gas cans that cost well over $100.00. He said I had the funniest look on my face when he told me how much it cost.

However, not all gas cans have the same cap thread. They are similar, but some will not interchange or fit up to a gas cap. I have a Midwest Can Company can and found a cap and ended up with this with a DuBro pump and fitting set.

I just tried my gas cap off my smaller push mower on one of my gas cans, its a Blitz can, the most common brand around here. My push mower is on older MTD mower, the gas cap from that Tecumseh engine wasn't big enough to fit a Blitz one gallon can. I already made a cap with fittings from an older can, but after a few years the threaded part of the plastic cap has split and needs to be replaced.

This is a very cheap way to go as there are always empty glow fuel jugs in the trash cans at the flying field. The only problem is "ofcourse" our Gubberment. You can get a hefty fine for dispensing gasoline into an unapproved container and the service station you used could be fined too. It would probably never happen, but all it takes is a bored patron with a cell phone with a camera and your busted. Be careful.

Recently, I saw a company that makes and sells at a pretty high price a nice aluminum cap and fittings that fits Blitz cans. Maybe do a search on Blitz cans and see what turns up. If I find the source, I will post it here. Good luck.

I also use a old glow fuel jug, however I mix up 2 gallons of gas at a time in a regular gas can. That is the one I take to the gas station not the glow fuel jug...problem solved lol

I go to the gas station with a 2 gallon jug also. I'm a 32:1 man and a 8oz bottle of oil in a 2 gal can is my preferred mix procedure. I then keep my 1gal field can full from the 2 gallon can. When the 2 gal can gets empty, I mix a new batch.

a few times i have made cans were i pump air into them and the air pushes fuel into my tank. Here are some of those various times...

I considered that approach, but I defuel my glo engines afrter days end. How do you do that with air pressuire to the gas can? Do you pump up the planes tank with air and drive it out the pick up tube back to the gas can? Thanks.

i do not drain gas out of a gas plane. by keeping gas in them the fuel tubing does not get hard and stiff.

Do you use gasoline with ethanol? If so, do you use a fuel stabilier?. Do you use the blue or tan pump diaphram? What fuel line do you use?

at present i have 5 gassers and about 3 of them have the blue stuff on them and the other the yellow tygon inside the tank. a few of them have black neopreme on the vent lines. I do not run any additvies in the gas. I use to change out all my fuel lines every year in the hobby. For about the last 3-5 years i have not been doing that deal anymore.

Being a cheapskate I got a outboard motor hose and primer bulb. It takes about 12 squeezes to fill a 24 oz tank. The vent on the gas can got a piece of brass tubing that fit snug and accepted the fuel hose. I also installed a VW type fuel filter. The business end had a brass welding valve that steps down to model size tubing. It is and older plastic can with out the new stupid spill-for-sure spout. I also grabbed a vintalge, but new, metal 1-gallon gas can for future use. A Coleman can would work the same.

You bet. IT seals the jug air tight. The insert for the cap has an o-ring.

For my kerosene jug, I used an electric pump. I attached the pump to a project box from radio shack and use the aluminum cover for the project box to attach the box to the jug. Looks like to $200 jug.

Just use a government approved 1 - 2 gallon can to obtain the gas from station - add mix first. Then simply pour the mixed gas into your hobby can of any type... No problem with the GOV. If find this is easier and I always have mixed gas available.

They work great and allow for normal R/C gas jug fittings to be used. I don't store or transport with them on though as I just figure the nozzle/cap would be safer.
