They are used on side mounted carbs. most of the time.
They extend the carb opening to the outside of the cowl.
Thet can also give a ram effect to the carb.

They smooth the airflow into the carb. They also contain the fuel sprayback out of the carb due to the valve overlap during the exhaust cycle and allow the next intake cycle to draw that fuel back into the engine. They are useful for carbs mounted in any attitude and are used on downward facing carbs on the Saito engines. In most cases fuel economy and perfromance is improved with their use. However, for some reason, some engines experience a slight performance loss. Some tuning effect is going on and experimenting with the tube length and diameter is likely called for.

Sincerely, Richard

I have one of these i bought from towerhobbies it's a great planes velocity stack for 25-45cc engines

And i have it on my side carb DLE30 and have noticed no difference, except I see less high speed fuel spray in the cowling now its barely nothign at all..

Though I haven't noticed any difference in the engine's performance but it's something I highly recomend it if you have a side carb.

Will this velocity stack fit on the DLE30 and/or DLE55?

I got this one from Jody at ValleyviewRC.com. He installed it for me when I ordered the engine, about $4 for the v-stack. He told me that plastic can be better than metal in cold climates since metal ones can ice up. I love the bone dry engine box. No gas, no oil. Nice dry wood.

I got a velocity stack from Valley View also. The one I got doesn't have the metal inserts in the holes like the one pictured here from Horizon. I would think the metal inserts would be a plus.

The metal inserts are a plus if your bolts are long enough. What I did for a easy install was to press out the metal inserts & measured the dia of hex bolt heads. On mine I drilled out the holes where inserts where...with a "Q" size drill. That made a real tight push fit...and pressed the stack on. This avoids taking the bolts out & getting longer ones. Also you avoid creating air leaks. Simple. Capt,n

I got a bag of extra M5 long bolts from Fastenal. I just use them and cut them to length. The metal inserts are nice. Keeps the plastic from crushing even though you shouldn't really tighten them that much anyway. It is important to cut these bolts only 2-3 mm longer or you end up with the tip of the bolt pushing on the crank counter balance (DL-50/55, not sure about 30).
