Default DLE 55

Excuse the question but I am currently building a 1/6 scale
P51, And the engine of choice was the dle 55 I can tune an
engine but need help in the mechanics of one. The question is
can the head of the dle 55 be rotated 90 degrees to make it a
rear exhaust rather than a side exhaust without engine
trouble?

No,the engine design does not allow for what you ask or wish to do.

I'm sure Jodi or TOM will have this nailed but I would be looking at the ignition in the meantime.

If this is a 1/6 scale P51 it will have a 74 inch wingspan (approximately). Seems to me that a DLE55 is way oversize for this size P51. Maybe a better choice is the DLE30, or maybe the Syssa SAP180. Both of these are 30cc gas engines and would fly that size mustang very well. I have seen the DLE30 fly the 81 inch H9 mustang and the dle30 flies this plane VERY strongly. So strongly that it can take off and climb up at a 40-45 degree angle and ACCELERATE while climbing, with a 19-8 prop. The Syssa SAP180 is a rear intake/rear exhaust engine and comes essentially ready to install in this size P51 out of the box- you don't need to buy a different muffler for it.

If this is actually a 1/5 scale mustang or so it will have an 89 inch wingspan. The Top Flite P51 ARF or ARC is 84 inches. The Dle55 would be a good choice for this size plane. If you want an in cowl muffler for this Jtec has one that they claim will not require you to cut the cowl much.

The cylinder can be rotated 180 degrees to put the exhaust on the other side but not 90 degrees. If you rotate the cylinder you must rotate the piston also.
