I wanted to add, if you get the Sbach make sure you get the latest version. Pilot made an earlier version for the DLE 30 side mounted carb and it had a 3/4 in longer motor box which won't work without some major changes to the motor box for the rear mounted carb. The later version had that built in.

RE: DLE30 experiences please
Don't know about the grunt yet....mine won't see air till next spring!
But thrust is 18 plus pounds, and the Sbach 30CC from Slipstream (my version) says 11 lbs. weight. So even after I do my fuelproofing and structural enhancements, say 12 lbs and 18 lbs thrust...
I dunno, but I think it's good. Anyone else have an opinion on thrust to weight ratio???

I was considering putting a DLE 30 on a Giant Big Stick, but I hear it would require ''about'' a pound of ballast up front. Can anyone confirm this, also by how much would one have to extend the nose to eliminate the ballast.

We did a thrust test on 18x6 Skorepa prop on a 26 Evolution with tuned pipe - 14 lbs - accurate test on engine in a plane
18 pounds on the 30?
that sounds verry good
How was that measured?

Well I now have 20 hrs on the first DLE30 and 5 hrs on the second(10min at a time). So far no problem with either. Running at 8800rpm(18X8 MA wood) on ground with 7kg's thrust(at sea level) in a 4.5kg aircraft
Cheers

Hi there "the Ghost". Hope things 'down under' are well, and thanks for the great measurements!
That works out to 15.4 lbs thrust. Sounds not too shabby.
How does that fly your 9.9 lb airplane?

This is the Top Dawg yak 55sp made by Gold Wing. Loved it so much that we put 2.5 gal through the 30 in two days. These planes are on sale for 249.00 right now. Plane rtf came in at 9lbs 5oz. I also have a Fliton 1.20 with the dle 30 and it weighs 13lbs. 7oz. it will still hover and torque roll but the 9lb plane is insane. If you fly Low and Slow than the 30 is the best choice hands down. I converted my side carbs to rear carbs because of a burble. Other than that no problems.

RE: DLE30 experiences please
Hey Franke21m....great looking Yak, man!
Thanks for the pics!
At that weight, I believe it would be a rocket!
All this good vibe about the DLE30 is getting me wound up to get mine done...for NEXT SPRING!
I have a smaller Goldwing Sukhoi with an OS55 in it...really light on the controls. Loving it.
This will be my first gasser...they are getting bigger and bigger....OMG, what next?

Your telling me thier getting BIGGERANDBIGGER. I was solod in oct 2009. And I am getting ready to order a pilot edge 40%. I must say when you go to gas you get spoiled. But your on the right track. Plenty of time to build a plane for spring. Good Luck, Franke.

I just mounted my dle 30 on a mx2. Cant wait to fire her up!! I may need to extend it out a 1/4 inch more because the needle is right in the middle of the FW. Cant get a screw driver to it. Hey captn, what does snow look like..... happy holidays, from san diego

RE: DLE30 experiences please
A friend of mine did just that, DLE-30 on a Giant Stik, based on my suggestion (note head swelling). He also moved the elevator servo forward into the servo tray area. Even with the batteries all forward, I think he still had to add about 8 oz of lead.
His previous Stik crashed due to a broken elevator pushrod. It broke right at the end of the threads. I was flying it (note head shrinking to normal size).
I have flown it with the DLE, and it is an excellent combination. You will love it.

ka8yyz Also on your new project with the DLE 30 you might have to cut a hole in the firewall so the carb will fit and the prop will sit where it is suppose to. I can't remember because I was looking at the side carb 30 when I re-engined mine!

In running the best of the 25/26 stuf on tuned exhaust I was not able to get much above 14 lbs on a usable prop and these put out much more than the non tuned setups.
Your numbers sound realistic
The advertised 18 lb figure is a bit of a puzzler tho-unless, the prop wasvery low pitch and of larger dia-not a very practical flying arrangement

RE: DLE30 experiences please
A question for you guys then. I am measuring thrust with a Berkley Digital fish scale. And on my G-38 turning a 18x8 under 8000 I was seeing 15lbs of pull. Am I looking at it wrong? I ask because if the DLE 30 will turn a 18x8 at over 8500 it should be up there close to 18 should'nt it?

I am sure the DLE30 will do close to 18 pounds of thrust. It will have more power than the G38....I have both. Used same prop on both engines when I flew my Midwest Giles 202. A G38 engine is more for a warbird that needs nose weight. The Dle30 just kicks...you know what!. Power! Capt,n

I had the same engine(G38) and got the same figgers that you got. The DLE is a different beast, lot better induction, and porting.

I flying the Gold Wing models to, the MX 2 running the DLE30. First one had a G38 and met a light pole at the local oval, thats when I went to the DLE. First photo is one with the G38, second is after hit on pole and ground, and the last is the DLE powered twins.

Great colors on the planes, Sure do hate to see a crashed plane! There is so much work to getting one ready even an ARF, I ended up putting my Tiger two [kit plane]in the ground this summer when I lost all control, I think it was the servo tray broke loose because lost everything at once! Very nice looking airplanes!
