I've never owned a gasser, but with the price of glow fuel, I'm ready to start. I just need some help to decide if the DLE 20 is right for my airplane.
I have a NIB Great Planes PT-19 ARF.
Wingspan is 82.5 inches
Area is 1027 sq in
Weight is 9.75-10.5 lb.
Box says 2 stroke 61-91, 4 stroke 91-1.20
I have an old review which says it flew great on an O.S. 91 4 stroke.
Do you think the DLE 20 is too much for this aircraft?

Did a another test run of the DLE-20 again and I am only getting 7800RPM with a MAS 16x8 prop. I workrd on the high and low end setting but the RPM's never went any higher. I think my tach my be off. The engine sounds like it is turned OK so I am thinking that is the problem. I will go fly the PT-17 and work on the needles some more. I rotated the carb and installed the JTEC pitts muffler, now I cannot get to the needles unless I remove the cowl and pitts muffler[:'(] I will work on it any way. I think I will finish the plane this week and then take the cowl & pitts muffler off and then install the stock muffler and get the engine turned right Here is a video of how it is running for now. It sounds really good.

Jim S. has been posting on this very forum about that very plane, I think. Look back one or two pages and you will find a bunch of info and pictures. I agree - the cost of glow fuel has me moving to gassers as well.

Temp, humididy, alt, etc all play a part in it. I'd say it sounds great, and if transistion is good....go fly it!!!

Hmmm... You people are giving me an appetite.

I have a Senior Telemaster with a Webra 120 (which I will be maindening on Wednesday). It is a BIT overpowered, so switching to a DLE20 would be a beneficial move. Ground clearance on a Telemaster is a trivial matter :-).

The question is where to buy (reasonable shipping) a DLE20 over here....

I am having trouble sending you a pm. I just want you to know that if you rotated the carb 180 degrees like we talked about you need to test run the DLE-20 before you install the pitts muffler. If you don't you will not be able to adjust the low & high end needles. I am going to have to take off the pitts muffler to get to the needles because I am onyly getting 7800RPM with a MAS 16x8 prop. I have been told I should be gettign close to 9000RPM with that prop. I know the PT-17 will fly very well at 7800RPM but I like to have all the power I can get out of an engine so I'll try and adjust the needles Good luck on yours I see you are coming along very well with the DLE-20 install

I am installing the DLE 20 in a Ohio Model Products Profile Yak. I had an O.S. 120 FS in it . It flew well , very powerful and easy to fly. With low control throws you train some one to fly on it.
Very durable and easy to maintain .

I am expecting the DLE 20 to be almost as good - but not better . It is quite a bit heavier and I am not sure it has as much power . But we shall see.

The mounting is complete and it was really easy . The engine just dropped right in . If I could have moved it back I would have but ther was just no room with rear position of the carb.

I am using a Tec Arrow I BEC. It will use the same huge battery as my Rx and this save some weight by not requiring an additional battery for the ignition.

I am happy to answer any question anyone may have .

You'll get a little less with the Pitts I woulds think..but not that much. I will be ordering the smaller Pitts to help clear the dubro mounts and hope to have enough room to get to the needle with the mount and smaller pitts. We shall see.

I assume this is the Razor Yak? I have one nib and will be putting a DLE-20 on it as well (as soon as funds permit another DLE-20). Please post pics of your setup! I am very interested how you did yours!

Hi Vinmech,

Just a thought on your high speed missing problem. Check the size and condition of your ignition battery(s). The higher the RPM, the higher the amperage. If you are using one battery for your ignition and receiver, you could be putting yourself in a position to lose control of your aircraft. If the ignition is pulling the voltage down from the battery and you are using the same battery for your receiver, the receiver may momentarily shut down and try to reboot if the voltage gets low enough. This is especially true for the 2.4 ghz. radios as they seem to be more sensitive to the shut downs. It takes them longer to reboot than the older 72 mhz radios. While it is trying to reboot, 2 or 3 to 8 seconds, bad things can happen to your airplane. And your wallet. Hope that solves the high speed missing.

I don't think it is a Razor. I don't remember that being called that . Just a regular OMP Profile Yak.
I just checked the OMP websites . Mine is not the Razor. Mine is larger - the wing span is about 80 inches and a 120 size aircraft.

Will post how this comes out - right now it looks heavy and I don't see how it can equal the power of my OS 120 FS.

But we shall see.

Well, I would like to see it in any case, please. I don't know how a OS 120FS compares to an OS 120AX, but the DLE-20 is very close to the 120AX. I have had both on the same plane.

I have an 120 AX and it is more powerful than 120 FS. The AX is almost as powerful as my Saito 150.

I would be very happy if the DLE 20 was as powerful as AX. But my guess is it is as powerful than a 120 FS and weighs a bit more - thus I may net down in performance.

We shall see.

How do you know the DLE 20 is as powerful as the 120 AX? Is it just the published power rating?

Take a look at your spark plug. The original will burn out, (quit?) from first start to ? Use only a NGK CM6 plug only. Easier starting, lower idle, better running, higher top end, better fuel economy, longer lifespan. And, it is SMOOOOOTH!

Make sure the carburetor is properly vented inside of the fuselage. If it isn't, it may make the engine run really erratically. Just another thought. Check all electrical connections to make sure they are tight. Make sure all fuel lines are intact with no leaks. Hold your tongue right.
