I have ordered the 17x6 and will try it. I also wanted to report that I stuck a tach on my dle35 which is rated at 8500 rpm and it only turns 7000 rpm so I see the rated rpm is definitely not a target. Also my dle20 is very hard to prime first flight of the day, any suggestions? The 35 always fires up rather quick. Last time I had to stick a starter on my 20 to get it to pop with the choke on.

Some people close the small hole in the choke plate with solder. You have to be careful though as when done, it becomes easy to over choke the engine. Like no fuel one flip then when the engine gets fuel, its flooded the next. I've found a good compromise is closing the hole with solder then redrilling a much smaller hole through the solder. This is working great for me and seem to be a good compromise.

The "rated" rpm is really the highest you would ever want to see. Don't forget that the rpm will be even higher in the air.

You guys that might like to run small 8 oz. tanks for your 20cc's.... have you tried the Echo brand black gas fuel tubing? Man that stuff is as flexible as silicone glow medium tubing! It works easily in a tiny gas tank even with a glow size clunk. I got mine at Lowes in the weed eater department.

Ernie- do you know what the Echo line is made from? Also - how long have you been using this line? How is it lasting?

I just bought a Hayes tank, and it comes with black tubing that I would bet is equally flexible. Probably the same stuff. Neoprene. Hayes's is molded neoprene.

Lately my replies have not been sent right. The page just goes white and nothing. I have not had a chance to ethanol test the black Echo tubing yet. I have faith though that the new offerings like this are all ethanol compatible. The Hayes black neoprene will not last with ethanol, nor will any neoprene. There is a small chance that it is not neoprene any more but I would not trust it. Keep us posted!

have just purchased the Seagull Christen Husky. I plan on putting the DLE 20 into it. horizon suggests the evolution 15cc. The DLE 20 is just a little lighter.AUW. The plane has an 80 inch wing span and weighs around 8.5lbs.

Hi everyone. I'm thinking of putting a DLE20 in the 60 size Top Flite Mustang ARF. The other option is a Saito fa125. I plan on flying it scale. Flight time is the most important consideration on my mind. How much time can I expect on a good size tank? I've heard about 20min+ flight times with the DLE. What size tank should I put in the mustang for a good balance and long flight times. If I'm going to be doing fighter sweeps I need to be able to fly for a long time

Hay Xtatorque,
I have the model with a K&B 1.00 nitro engine and a 16 oz fuel tank. I've had my model for years and your going to love this Mustang. I'm in the process of removing the nitro 2 stroke and going with a RCG 20cc gas engine in my Top Flight Mustang. I am using a 16 oz. tank in my model now and will swap out for a Roto 16 oz...a great gas tank, for the gas conversion. 16oz. is all you need...that will keep you in the air longer then 20 minutes, depending how much throttle you use.

You will need to make a breather for your carburetor...or you will have issues with your DLE 20 going lean.

http://www.thunderboltrc.com/tutoria...ial_seven.html

Go to this above link and the gentlemen that wrote this up, knows what the problems is and his solution to it. I'm going to do this mod to my RCG carburetor when I install my 20cc gas engine into my Mustang. I am also going to beef up my fire wall and add a rear compartment near the tail for my flight and ignition batteries. The model is going to be nose heavy so be ready for this.

And here is a full build thread on the Top Flight Mustang.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-w...fications.html

With out a doubt, this T.F. Mustang is a very sweet flying model...arguably one of the best flying ones in its size ever produced.

Soft Landings Always,
Bobby of Maui

16oz tank will fly for 20 mins at WOT, with throttle management 30 mins and still have 25% left.

xtratorque, the DLE will be plenty of power for the Top Flight 60 size Mustang. I've had mine flying about 3yrs with the DLE. However, you must have proper cooling. I posted earlier in this thread about my problems and solutions. Mine seemed to run ok then had problems mid flight with sagging, not idling down, engine outs etc. Turned out to be vapor lock. Muffler can of the pitts muffler is right under the carb. There was not much air circulation in the upper rear cowling. I had to install air ducts to carb area on top and air dam in front of air exhaust hole. This is after several other attempted fixes that didn't work. Save your self a lot of trouble and frustration and do this on initial install. I will try posting pictures again. Not elegant but works. The airplane was so beat up after all my forced landings etc that I refinished in British (actuarially RAAF) colors. I hope this saves you trouble. Also 16-8 MA prop works great.

Aint that how these ol warbirds are supposed to look? Like they been through battle? I haven't had the problems as you have, but all my DLE 20's take there time idling down. Something in the ignition. I just got used to idling down a little sooner on approach and it's fine.

Does anybody have an opinion on which is the quietest prop, the engine is going in a Yak 54, 72 inch span with Krumscheid canister. Thanks, John.

I don't know which prop, but am interested in your canister setup on the 20cc. Do you have a link to that canister? Did you use a Mac's header? Had a chance to compare it to the stock muffler yet? Thanks a bunch!

Hi Ernie, totally senior moment on my part and got the threads mixed up, all that info is for my DLE35. I run my DLE20 on the standard silencer with perforated tubes stuck in to keep the noise down and use APC 16 x 8 pattern prop.

I have to say, now that I have about 2 gallons in my 20, it is running very well. Flew my 4*12 with it using an APC 16x8, but had to prop it down to a 16x6 APC so I could land it. It now starts with a few flips(when I remember to flip the throttle hold off). I go about 20 minutes on a 14 oz tank. I have the XYZ20cc in a box, supposed to be very close to the DLE in performance, with a Walbro carb, and it will go in my Corsair, so if it does, that will also be a nice flying plane.

Balsa USA Phaeton 90, pretty old plane, originally had an OS 91 surpass fs. A perfect motor for this plane, in my opinion

Started teaching my wife to fly last year on a funtana 90 with the same DLE 20, but we were worried that it was too fragile to take much abuse while learning to land..

Last month the needle bearings exploded and destroyed everything internally. I sent it to one of the best engine guru's in the business for a rebuild, along with a Frank Bowman ring, Bocca RC racing bearings, and a true Walboro carburetor. (oh, also replaced ignition w/ a Valley View Rcxel standard single cylinder cm6 ignition) -he also replaced the crank, piston and rod-

After just a half gallon burned, this motor is WAY smoother running with the absolute best throttle response/range ive had on a gas motor! Way better than it was before, after some 10 gallons! The idle is perfectly sensitive to each single click of idle trim, no hanging at high idle for some moments and settling down to normal idle any more! full throttle to idle go's to idle perfectly every time!

Just a sweet, sweet motor

I have a Segul Edge 540 60 size and want to put a DLE 20 in it. I have seen mounts with a hole in the firewall to move the carb back. Does this make the firewall too weak? What options do I have?

No experience with this plane, but generally, DLE 20 carbs will stay ahead of the firewall. No hole required.
