Default DLE 20 With an ES Composites Tuned Pipe

My next project is an [link=http://www.valleyviewrc.com/Yak%2054%20Pro%20SD%20Model.htm]SD Models Yak Pro from VVRC[/link] with a DLE 20, ES Composites carbon fiber tuned pipe with a Macs 2986 header. I've got and have had several glow engines with tuned pipes but this is my first time doing this to a gas engine. I'd like to turn a Vess 18x6 the same/more RPM on a pipe as the DLE 20 will turn a Vess 17x6 on the stock muffler. Do you think that is possible? Any tuning tricks you can recommend would be appreciated.

Secondly, I'm hoping for a huge noise reduction as well. My DLE 20 on a Jtec Pitts is really close to being too loud to fly at our field.

We'll see here shortly.. I've ordered everything but the plane. Waiting on one final Paypal payment and I should have this thing up and flying soon. I'm hoping for a monster!

Well, it isn't a direct bolt on but the bolt spacing is correct and from what MACS tells me, five or so minutes with a rat tail file will be all it takes to open the port up a bit. But if it is like nitro motors, it won't make that much difference.

Yea, like I said in my original post, I'm going to use a 2986 header like you describe above. Should be a fun project. I should have everything I need in a week or so. I was hoping I wasn't the first one to try this and someone else had some information that they would like to share.

Using a Mac's header for the G23/G26 and a 19 oz. by volume mousse can, I made a simple tuned muffler for my G20 which gave a power increase of 17%, which is quite a bit for such an inexpensive mod.

Karol,

Is that a Giant Big Stick that you have your G-20 mounted on?

Give us some details about the can like does the pipe extend inside the can etc?

The model is a GP Big Stick 60 with an AUW of 8.75 lbs. The G23/G26 header is used full length and only extends inside the neck of the mousse can about 1/2" and is held quite firmly with a combination of Hi Temp silicone and JB Weld. The rear stinger is 3/8"ID and is inserted just enough to allow for a reasonably strong JB Weld joint. The entire arrangement weighs approx 3.5 oz and gives an increase of 950 rpm over the stock muffler turning a Xoar 16x6 prop at 3,000' elevation

Would Alumiweld stand up to the heat of a gas engine?

Well, if the heat isn't melting that zip tie, it won't melt Alumiweld either.

I could do without the cell phone easily enough. But I sure would have withdrawal symptoms if I lost my "information highway"....

Plane, engine and servos (Power HD DSM090M) came in today. Opto kill came in yesterday and the only thing left is the header. I'll start the plane build this weekend.
