Default New OS MAX 33cc gasoline engine

I e-mailed OS max today (from their Japanese website, not the US website...) asking if any new gasoline engines were coming soon and he said that a 33cc (2stroke) engine was coming in July. He didn't give any specifics....just that it was a 33cc engine coming in July. YEAH!!!!!

Two comments.

OS generally makes very good engines.

They price them as if many of the pieces were made of pure gold.

DLE-55 out sells the gt-55 because it's 59% cheaper and proven to be light, powerfull and reliable.

If the gt-33 is 59% more than the DLE-30, it will cost $510!

I'll pass on anything gas that says OS on it till they get the price in line with the competition.

I cant afford an OS either, so they're no good. MY cheap engine is better I tell you. I can buy a dozen for the price of one OS. Oh wait that was last decade, I just bought a radial, nevermind.

I've always liked OS, but agree their prices are high, especially on their 4 strokes. However, the GT55 is the same price as a DA60, albeit maybe not in the same power league. If DA came out with a 30 for $500, you can bet there'd be guys all over it....

I wouldnt pay $500 for a 30cc size DA either. I suspect that plenty of DA or nothing folks would buy it but, as Wasp stated a few other choices in the 30cc area MVVS and DLE seem to be holding their own and doing pretty well. Not to mention can be had for just over $300. Back to the OP, I too have always loved my OS glow's but, yes for a 30cc gasser to take off they would have to price it in line with the other 30cc engines to make a big dent. I have yet to see a single plane at the field with the OS 55cc'r on it. A big part of it is probably due to the fact that DA is right here in Tucson and the fact that once again, other choices that have had a good track record can be had for far less. just my .02.

With OS GT-55 parts prices such as the following, I won't be buying one anytime soon! Examples: Ignition for $280, Ignition sensor for $55, piston ring for $22 and get this, the fancy carb for $155 .... OUCH if you should ever break one!

OS or DA 30cc gasser? I would pay $429 MAX.
hmmm...sounds similar in price to another US made 30cc engine. LOL, if OS wants to be competitive (and sell more than a couple engines) in the 30cc market, $429 would be max. Our club has two members with Funtana 125's; one with a DLE 30, and one with a Syssa 30. Both are great engines. Would say the DLE has a little more "grunt" for bigger props, but on that size plane, both engines are fantastic! I would buy either of those engines; the Syssa seems a little higher until you take into account it already has a "Pitts" style muffler, which is helpful in not butchering a cowl in a 30cc size plane...

I think that's fair for an US or Japan made engine. And only if the OS is made in japan and NOT China.......... And comes un-radiated.

Google also turned up references to a GT60, GT-60FI fuel injected, and GT-23 all due this year. I thought OS was 5 years slow to get on the gasser game, but they are full on now.

OS doesn't set their engines' prices in the US. The importer does. Back when World Engines sold the distributorship to the current importer, the prices increased by a third the very next day. I haven't bought nearly as many new OS engines since then. If I do buy one today, it is usually a recently manufactured rendition of an older four-stroke (FS-30 or 40). I'm not paying those ridiculous prices for the Alpha Series.

OS sure does make nice looking engines! Wonder what the weight/power will be like...

On that note, why aren't the gas engine manufacturers using aluminum connecting rods, at least in the smaller 20 and 30cc sizes? Just read a review in RC Sport Flyer of RCGF V2 version of their 20cc, and it has a beefy steel connecting rod. I'm sure durability comes into play, but at that displacement, I'd think more would go for the bushed or bearing'ed aluminum rod...

I thought they would hang a pumper carb on the old BGX and call it a gasser.
