Default DLE-20 Gas/Oil Ratio ?

I see that the recommended ratio for the DLE-20 is 30:1

Are people actually using this ratio, or are they playing around with other ratios ?

I know the recommendation but I run Penzoil 40-1 in everything else and when mine gets mounted I will run that in it also! One gas can is easier to manage.

There's hundreds of threads here in the gas eng section of RCU about such gas/oil mixes.
Do a simple search & you'll find tons of them.

Easy routine for a DLE20;

Take 4 oz of Stihl HP Ultra and put into a 1 gal gas jug.
Add .95 gal of gas
Go fly!

Btw; who'd you buy yours from?

The DLE20 requires 32:1 minimum or it will die an early death, especialy with mineral oil, the failure will be obvious it was from a lack of lubrication, not a warranty problem, just sayin'. Your other engines would run very well on 32:1 also.

40:1 might be OK in a DLE-30 but in the DLE-20 you best stick with 32:1

a1pcfixer I got it from a guy at the field who bought it to go in a TF Mustang and then decided to go with the GS TF Mustang. He bought a 55 dle for that and had no use for the 20. I have not even taken it out of the box. I don't yet have a plane for it, but I just could not turn down the deal. My wife says I am addicted!!

And jody I have to ask is there an oil that I can run at 40-1....maybe go with synthetic?? For as little as this engines burns I hate to have a gallon sitting there just for it only. And I don't want to intentionally ruin an engine! I also have a dle 30 on 40-1 penzoil and it seems to be doing great Now it only has about 6 tanks through it also!

Your gallon of gas will not set around long....if you fly your airplane much! Get going...life is short. Capt,n

Well I guess that I could always move the rest down to 32-1. Oil is cheap!

Smaller engines generally need more oil as the "mixture" throughput in an engine is so much lower compared to a 100cc for example but yet your RPM's are even higher... Same reason you run a richer oil mixture on a small dirtbike or any other tiny engine. There's also the topic of differing bearing types in some engines, but lets not worry about that here. It's all logical... Keep some oil on those bearings for a long happy life! 28-32:1 on a good synthetic is perfect for this guy after break-in; I wouldn't go leaner than that, even with Stihl, RedLine or BelRay. If you've got other gassers and don't want multiple mixtures, just run them all on 32:1 worry free. You'll also have less chance of leaving stale gas sitting around for months.

It's good to see I'm not alone. Hello, my name is Jody and I'm an addicted to toy airplanes.

Seriously, in order to use just one gas can, the best thing you could do is change all your engines over to 32:1, I did this years ago, weedies, chainsaws, blowers, everything, and now they all love me. There is absolutely no harm that could be caused to your other engines especialy your DLE30 and you could continue to use the oil of your choice rather than trying to find some "special" oil capable of handling the task at a thinner ratio.

Check your math, ya got errors.

This is round abouts 30:1 ratio......

Take 4 oz of Stihl HP Ultra and put into a 1 gal gas jug.

Manual says 30:1.

I mix 5L at a time. First 5L is mixed with Stihl HP (mineral) 2 stroke.

5000ml/31 = 161.3ml of oil. Thats what I mixed into 4.838.7 L of RON95 Octane Caltex with Techron.

When I buy another engine, like a DLE 30 for example, I'll simply use the high oil concentration required and keep that in the garage refridgerator.

I am with Jody and a lot of others here. Small engines (up to 60cc) run their best at 3% oil synthetic! (1:33). This was the outcome of fuel consumption tests, where 3% provided lowest consumption. With mineral oil, you need at least 50% more oil.

There will be no problem at all to run ALL your engines on 3%. They will thank you for it and show their gratitude in non-finicky behavour and long life (if you do not crash first)

Look back in this thread at msg/post #14 where he stated 23:1 (which is wrong).
Your ratio comes out to about 30.4:1

Next time I go fishing, I want you to come along!

I got a DLE20 in a Dragonlady. I've run about a gallon through the engine using 32:1 fuel with ash-less oil. Its kept on the rich side. Its turning a16x8 Master Airscrew prop at around 8200rpm and idling around 2000. Plenty of power, the throttle response has gotten better and better with every tankful. I have a 10 ounce tank in the aircraft. I fly 10 minute flights normally and always have plenty of fuel after landing. The one thing I did notice was the DLE20's idle will be high when coming in for landing. I have found that giving the throttle a quick burst allows the idle to return to normal. Great little engine, but do take the time to break in the engine first.

Default Gas Ratio DLE

Let's keep it simple: 32:1 is a RATIO, 32 parts gas to 1 part oil. So, in an empty can, you place 32 ounces of gas, and one ounce of oil. For a gallon of gas, you have 128 ounces of gas, and 4 ounces of oil, for a total of 132 ounces. Any way you do the math it is correct. 128oz/gas divided by 4oz/oil is a 32:1 ratio mix. Or 128oz/gas divided by 32 (32:1 ratio) is 4oz/oil.
