I don't subscribe to that mag, so share the good news and tell us all about Bill's award, as he certainly is deserving of the recognition.

Bill Carpenter is indeed a Prince of a man, he deserves every accolade that can be piled upon him. I would go so far as to say the majority of giant scale gas engine users are benefiting, directly or indirectly, from his work.
He seems to enjoy flying ugly planes though, nobody's perfect I guess, lol.

RE: Bill Carpenter honored
lol, he does get a little grief from his local clubmembers about his planes, but let me tell you, he can fly the wings off 'em! Knife edge circles on a Roadrunner are pretty impressive!

I wholeheartedly agree with Jody's post. After my first conversation with Bill, I knew I had been blessed with meeting a very fine man. He is indeed very deserving of this award and so much more.

RE: Bill Carpenter honored
Part of the description of the award itself is {edited for brevity};
"They (there) are members who go above and beyond to support model aviation,
our clubs, and our members. They do this quietly, sometimes in the background,
and often ask for little in return other than maybe the occasional "thank-you".
In 1983, Carl and Beth Goldberg asked the Academy of Model Aeronautics to help
create an award to recognize these types of individuals. Named the Carl & Beth
Goldberg Vital People Award, it is presented annually to "Vital people in the
background of the modeling movement whose efforts enhance the enjoyment of the
hobby and whose accomplishments are seldom formally acknowledged".
