I had several Ross twins, cast in front bearing housings, bolt on housings, Perry carbs, Kavan carbs, black anodized, grey. with mounts and exhausts, They used a lot of fuel and could only turn a 11-7 or 12-6 prop. If I recall the max rpm was under 11,500.

PlaneKrazee, I just got back from a engine show in Scottville Mich. I took a 70 year old Continental twin Army engine, a model Hit & Miss associated engine and the Kavan 50cc RC engine. A guy took a video of the Kavan 50 and is going to place it on YouTube. I have no idea how it came out yet. Anyway I had a lot of fun meeting new people there and got to see several types of Old engines and tractors. Some restored to better than new looks!!!! Hope to fly tomorrow if I get time towards eve. Here is a short video of my Kavan 50cc engine running on ignition. The fuel was glow fuel (too much oil) and I have since ran it on no Nitro low oil content alcohol. It will run on a pump gas mixture, but I prefer to run alky...that has a cooling effect over gas. It has been a lot of fun. I want to thank Jim M for doing the video with his nice camera. I did some reading on the Gales Ferry area. That sure does seem like a historical area to live in. I bet it would be a nice place to visit if you was not ever there before. I like new places. Take Care....Capt,n

UPDATE.. I changed the oil in the Kavan and advanced the timing. Did a re-tune and she is running even better. I also added a catch tank to the crankcase vent line. This Kavan 50cc Twinwith a Rcexl ignition is looking better all the time. When the oil is changed...there is more that comes out of the crankcase than you put in. It bi-passes the pistons and collects in the pan!

On my Kavan 50 there is a nipple for a crankcase vent line. I placed a "oil catch" tank to a fuel line that is hooked to the vent. I hope there will be enough pluse to carb if I place a Tee in that line to catch tank. The Tee would be close too nipple and the catch tank 6-7 inches at end of the line/tube. The catch tank has a vent so pressure will not build up. I hope this works...got to make a carb adapter and pick out a good Walbro carb. Best Regards Capt,n

I have run the Kavan more than ever. Took it too a couple more engine shows also. It will start with one flip 95% of the time! This just amazes people plus how slow it will run. I called another Kavan 50 owner and he also says his will idle down to 500 RPM. To see & hearthis is ....well "neat". I can see it going into a J3 Cub or a Flybaby. Capt,n

I ran across this thread while searching for something else. Cap'n, we talked about my FK-50 a while back. I got to tinkering with it, pulled the gear cover to see if it had the upgrade. It doesn't, but I was amazed when I opened it up. It was all sludged up! I degunked it, so it should be ok.
Previous owner must have run normal RC fuel, which contains way too much oil. As you're aware, it only requires 2% oil in the fuel since the oil pump is the primary lube source. I plan on having Mecoa upgrade the gear. No machining involved (where does he get that?), just a shim or two.
I don't know where PK gets such inaccurate info. The pump obviously works, being driven from an eccentric on the camshaft. Many full-scale design elements are incorporated in the engine; oil pump, dipstick, cam-ground pistons, oil rings, nitrided barrels, etc. It's a scale reproduction of the early Continental twins which produced 32-40 HP.
Anyone interested should look up Clarence Lee's RCM review. He thought it would be better termed a 'miniature aircraft engine'. It has the same performances as a Quadra 50 2-stroke, and is much stronger with ignition. One sold at Christie's not long ago for nearly $1,700. I don't recall ever seeing an Enya at Christie's. 
These are true works of industrial art and, since art is meant to be displayed and appreciated, I plan to put mine in a 1/3-scale Cub and occasionally fly it. They are very reliable and last a long time with proper care.

That is a nice looking engine. I thought my hands would be doing much better by now, but they are not. The way it looks I will be selling things. I have a hard time figuring out just what right now. Seems like everything I have needs good working hands to do anything with it. So that is about it for now. Best Regards

UPDATE I was to another hand specialist & have had to visits & got a test where they can see inside your hand. That allowed them to give me a shot in the hand of med & it seems to be helping. I hope it gets better...only a day 1/2 ago. So there is a lot more hope now. Best Regards John
