I have seen those muffler silencers in a video on the Troybuilt Models web site where they are called "TBM DLE Engines Silencers". Troybuilt Models also sells the PTE36R but they are out of stock.
In post #125 on page five I show a picture of "muffler silencers" in my PTE36 muffler that were made by a club member. They are effective noise reducers but they cause a considerable RPM loss.

You can get the stuff (different name) from bunnings for about $10-14 as well as boat accessory places.
Would be interesting if it would quieten the can noise down any more.

Gas engines run hotter the Glow engines but i guess it depends where you apply it but its expensive to end up with burnt carbon.

i dont have any way of doing an accurate before and after db test but i can say it does knock down the annoying high frequencys.... makes the exhaust sound deeper and IMO quieter.

If I capped one of the two exhaust pipes on the PTE36cc muffler, the exit area of the open pipe would still exceed the combined exit area of the two inserts in my exhaust pipes. I have considered increasing the diameter of the two inserts in my muffler so as to regain some of the lost RPM caused by their excessive restriction. What we really need is a real muffler with a larger expansion chamber and internal baffles.
As usual, when a new engine hits the market we're left on our own to find a decent muffler that fits.
I'm anxious to hear how well the capping of one pipe works for you.

There is an easy solution for the muffler noise etc
Pick up the phone, Call (704) 799 1658 or send an e-mail to [email protected]
Speak with them about the dimensions they (and you) require. Pay some money as they request and you shall have your requirements met.
I have had them make up "specials" for me on a number of occassions and have always been satisfied with the results.

The 72 twin might be a good engine for a new AJ Slick. The cowling on the 89 inch AJS is 10.5-11 inches wide so the 243mm width would fit easily. When you get them in, please test it with a 24 inch Xoar or Mej prop, because that is what the DA-60 I had used. I will also be interested in the weight when they get in.

Hi Rocketman, you would need to test each one on the engine to determine if they will work well.
Corrugated flex headers will disrupt flow though, no matter what canister it's hooked up to.
I'm considering a soft mount like this http://www.escomposites.com/soft_mount.htmand perhaps one of their canisters, the header is the only issue.
On another matter I was going to fly my extra tomorrow so I thought I would fit the dle plug cap kit I bought just to be safe.
I took a photo of the resistor in question, and I can't say I have ever seen one flake it's surface off like that.
It's good the factory has fixed this in the newly supplied units, however if you have one of the early ones I suggest you change it to a dle cap kit.
Just my opinion, please don't jump down my throat if you disagree.

My 36 with canister is up and running but i havent flown yet .Its quiet and runs well .Mine wont hand start no matter how hard i try but fires right up with my starter.It holds an idle well and transitions pretty good too.I dont have a tach so i cant give any solid numbers.

I cut off the the right exhaust stack 1/2 way up and welded it completely closed. I have'nt had a chance to run it yet to see what a noise and performance difference it will make. The weather here in N.C. should be in the 60's Saturday and Sunday with light winds. I'll post the results When I get them.
