My V1 Engines have been frustrating. My V2 on the other hand has run great from the first flight. It is still breaking in and only has 9 flights on it. Im sure time will tell. I am updating my first V1 engine with a v2 cylinder, piston and crankcase. The new cylinder should do the trick. The crankcase is much improved also. Looks like it will seal a lot better.

My V2 is up to 27 flights and is still running great. Not a single problem. The outside of the engine is spotless, no leaks anywhere not even the muffler.
Very nice! I think they have the V1 problems corrected.

Finally ran my V1 rebuilt with a v2 cylinder, piston and crankcase. I started a post about my problem. Wont idle down. Needs the low end needle set to 2 1/2 turns out. I suspect an air leak but can't find one.
Runs great. I am sure I will pin down the problem. Maybe the reed block is not sealing.
Oz, want to suggest anything?

Walbro carb pump diaphragm questions. Has anyone ever replaced the black rubberized pump diaphragm with a blue acetate diaphragm or a tan fiberglass diaphragm? If so, did the engine run properly or did you have to tinker with that internal needle valve lever?
I bought another new PTE36 in November of 2013 when they were on sale for $275. Right out of the box it started easily and I ran it once but didn't fly the plane because the winter was so foul. In early June of 2014, I took it out to fly but it wouldn't start because it wouldn't draw fuel. When I squirted gas in the carb intake it started, idled well, ran well and flew well. It wouldn't start for a second flight so I packed it up and went home. A very close inspection revealed that the two flapper valves on the pump diaphragm were very slightly curled upward away from the carb body.
Now I am here asking questions about the different diaphragm materials and hoping to find something more durable and maybe impervious to ethanol.
Thanks.

Holy Moly! It looks as if no one has ever done this. I guess I'm the first. Placed an ordered for several Walbro K20-WAT carb rebuild kits from Stens for $7.75 each (no shipping & handling and no tax). They include the fiberglass diaphragm and the little metal internal parts and screens. Ordered on Wednesday June 18, arrived on Friday June 20.

Thanks, Rex. The engine starts and runs flawlessly now that the pump diaphragm has been replaced. After the initial choked start of the day it will start on the first or second flip for the rest of the day without choking.

Another satisfied customer. I bought my third PTE36 on November 4, 2013 and it is the one that needed the pump diaphragm replacement after being inactive through winter and spring. I have no complaints about the way they run but I did have to replace a spark plug and ignition unit on one of them.

I too had an ignition failure on one of my V1 Engines. I have to commend PTE for putting in the investment to redesign the V1. A new cylinder and crankcase was a lot of work. I agree that it was a faulty design at first but they made it right. It shows commitment.
I love these engines now.
