Both ends of the rod are needle bearing.

BREAK-IN OIL:
We recommend the use of a petroleum-based oil, such as Lawn Boy Ashless or Stihl Chainsaw oil for breakingin all MOKI engines with a ratio of 25 to 1. Use the break-in oil until approximately 5 gallons of fuel has been
run through the engine. ALWAYS MIX THE OIL ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURERS
INSTRUCTIONS!
Using the break-in oil will help to ensure the proper seating of the rings to the cylinder walls. This is
IMPORTANT if the full potential of the engine is to be realized.
NORMAL OIL AFTER BREAK-IN:
After break-in we recommend using AMSOIL Series 2000 2-Cycle Racing Oil mixed according to the
manufacturers instructions (40:1). It burns very clean and provides excellent protection. It is important to
note that mixing AMSOIL (and other oils) at a lower than recommended ratio (more oil) may cause carbonbuild-up, ring seizing, and plug fouling. ALWAYS MIX THE OIL ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURERS
INSTRUCTIONS!
Other high-quality synthetic or mineral oils may be used provided that they are intended for 2-stroke use in
air-cooled engines and are mixed according to the manufacturers instructions. Mineral oils are preferred
because they have fewer tendencies to foul the spark plugs.
I have seen somewhere on the forum that someone is making needle bearing rod for Moki engines, but I think it is only on the crank end.

I am sure the gas Moki will be a very good and long lasting engine if the right oil and ratios are used. The Moki engine is one of the best built engines I have seen inside and out! Capt,n

I sent an email to Moki asking about the construction of there gas engine line. Here is the response.
The gasoline engines piston and sleeve the same, but is little different, in the wrist pin diameter.
The sleeve steel and internal hard chrome, and high silicium aluminium piston in the both engine.
Not parallel to the sleeve, a little conical.
We use the hard aluminium conrod with steel needle bearing both place.
We use the best bearing in the Moki engine from Japan NTN, Koyo, and Thorington.

That's a nice looking engine. Many of the "glow converted to gas" engines have marginal cooling area for gasoline use, and of course bushed rods. This has needle bearing rods, and it looks like more cooling area than other converted engines. Might be a good one!
It will be interesting to see how the power is... It seems to me that when one gets into the 30cc sizes, that "through the crank" rotary valve induction may be a bit restrictive and limit power. I could be wrong however.... (It's happened before.)

I'm going by the history of Moki engines when I order this back in February. I also order the 1.4 gas engine. The 2.1 glow engine makes huge power for a front induction so I would believe this to be true for the 1.8 gas.
Looking for a inverted muffler for it right now. After I get on I'll put it on a test stand and try it out.

Man I can't believe how good it ran for the first time after just adjusting the carb.
APC 18x8 7900 to 8100 rpm and it's not even broke in yet.

I still haven't picked out a airframe for the 1.8 engine but I think I will get a Seagull Extra 540 60 size for the 1.4. http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...60-arf-SEA4000
I also bought the Mark Gas 1.4RC. My latest run with it was 9200rpm on a APC 16x8 using a Bission side exhaust and a Moki venturi. The venturi added 200rpm's on the APC prop.
The Chinese carb that engine engine came with gave me a little trouble.
Here are my notes on the Mark G1.4RC engine carb: The started easy and idle great, but as soon as I would open the thorttle past 25% the engine would go lean and die. I double check my filter and fuel lines. I had a Walbro WT540 I purchase for another project not being used just yet so I decided to give it a try. After a few adjusts the engine came alive. Note that this is the first run on the engine. Fuel is 91% octane 100% gas (no ethanol) 25% oil lawn boy. Idle great and ran up to 9000rpm on a APC 16x8 prop running a Bission side exhaust muffler. I would suggest getting the Mark venturi to add. This added 200 more rpm's to my engine.
Back to the Chinese carb, I was interested in finding what was causing the starvation. I disassemble the diaphragm side and found no issue dirty etc. Flip the carb over and disassemble the pump side. After removing the cover I notice the gaskets where placed in the wrong order. I flipped the gasket and reassembled. Next I replaced the WT540 and tested the engine. Engine started easy as before. After a few adjustments the engine ran the same rpm as the Walbro. I have read one other time someone had the exact same problem. I email them but they never responded so I wasn't able to find out if they where having the same issue, but my guess and reading that the person was having the same symptoms as mine I bet it was.
Both engine are very well made. If you have ever had a Moki you would know what I mean. I also have a Moki 1.35 glow engine. It turns the same 16x8 APC prop on 0% nitro at 9000rpm's.

I have a couple of little gassers and am planning on putting one in a US60, figure it would be a great set up. Used to have a mini van and could fly almost anything I wanted but it's with us no more. Now my plane size is limited. I do like the Yak 54 and am a sucker for a Stick. I might build an AMR 30 size stick, would be a fun project.

I have a Moki 1.35 engine. The crankcase compression with the glow plug out is real high. It Has to have the best pumping action to get fuel and air up to the cylinder than any engine I tested. The engine is very well made. I rank it as one of the best. Capt,n Still in Florida....
