I have a friend that is just getting into RC and he needs a good reliable 26 CC engine for his new plane, this is not an engine size I use so would like to know what the good choice or choices are for something user friendly etc.

Depending on the type model could make a big difference in engine choice, but assuming a middle of the road situation one could choose from the following: MVVS26, G26, MLD28, DLE30 or 3W28i.

I know I'm going to get nailed to the cross by the upper echelon for this, but.  I like the RCGF 26cc.

I can thoroughly recommend an MVVS. A real quality engine. The great thing about it is they have now discontinued the 26 and have brought out a 30 that is the same dimensions as the 26 and another good point is it is front induction and side exhaust and fitted with an inverted wrap round muffler gives it a very narrow profile

hi,
seeing your friend is just getting into RC, one of the cheaper engines could probably be the option, you dont say how old he is or what kind of model it is, as both make a big difference, especially the age, either way, the DLE, is an excellent all round engine, or the RCG, which will be a bit cheaper, they are both very good engines and half the price of some other brands,
as "acerc" states the upper echelon will nail this, as well, but there are a lot of the cheaper engines around, some play up, but I have seen the upper echelon brands play up as well, a lot of it comes back to tuning,
if he is only a learner, a top of the line engine will break the same as a cheaper engine, if the thumbs get confused.

No mvvs engines in this country. They are evolution engines and they have the 26, no 30.

seeing that MVVS make Evolution and Graupner engines and are identical i would imagine that the 26 will disappear to be replaced by the 30 at some time.
As for them not being available in the US P.e. Reivers in Holland will ship anywhere

I would aslo suggest that some of the alphabet engines in 26cc are not only portly but over powered. In many cases a DLE 20 will provide better performance.
I had a 26cc on loan to try out  and MVVS 35 (older version). The MVVS fired up first time every time. The Alphabet was problematic. I eventually ot it running reliably but it swung the same size prop at lower rpm than my DLE20 and it was whopping 250gr heavier.
Depending on the plane it may not make a difference but I am thankful I had a reliable and powerful engine to get me into petrol engines.
