Ignition battery for zenoah g26
How large a battery for the g26? I know that they have a high current draw for the Ign. not sure what capacity to get for 5 or 6 10 minute flights with out charging.

I get 8,10 minute fligh out of 4.8V 2000 MA battery on DLE55

Your DLE has a RCexl ignition and the Zenoah has there own ignition and it is a energy hog.

The best thing is to replace the ignition with a RCEXL,Plug and Play.

RE: Ignition battery for zenoah g26
I'm using a 2600mah Tenergy 4.8V battery for ignition on the G26 and found it draws a minimum of 400mah for a 10 minute flight in the 1/4 to full throttle range. I stop flying after 4 flights and still have about 1000mah left. I was surprised though at how much current that ICU draws. I'm pondering using a higher current 7.4V Lipo with a 4.8V regulator instead.

Toni Clarke recommends a single cell 3.7 volts 2500-3000 mAh lipo battery, as the Zen ignition will work down to 3.0 volts. For overall simplicity I switched to using an RC exl ignition with a 4.8 volt 700 mAh Nicad battery which easily gives seven 10-12 min. flights on my G20.

I would buy a RCXEL CD ignition. By the time you buy a specal battery and a charger to charge aspecial battery, you will have spent the $$ to pay for the RCXEL. The RCXEL will run a long time on just a good 4.8 Nicad that you probably have a charger for. That makes sense...I think? Capt,n

When you say that the RCEXL ignition module is plug n play, does it mean that no other adjustments or mods are required other than changing the connectors? No need to change timing or sensors? I am currently running a 2700ma 4 cell nickel hydride batt on my G20 ignition and only getting 3 flights. Looking to get about 5 flights before having to replace batt.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Thanks. If it's just changing the connectors, that much I can handle. It would make a already sweet engine that much sweeter. I have three DLEs, a Brison, a 3w, a YW(Korean) & a CRRC. Except for the CRRC, they all run great but the Zenoah trumps them all in the "just flip & go fly" department. Now if I can just sort out the ignition battery issue, it would make it that much better.

Quick question. The original Zenoah ignition has a ground wire to be screwed onto the crankcase. The Rcexl ignition does not have this ground wire. Not needed?

Another question. The sensor connector on the original Zenoah ignition does not seem to follow convention with the black wire in the middle between the red and white. Can I assume that the wire colors itself is correct and match them with the Rcexl ignition's wire colors i.e. black on black, red on red and white on white?

Nevermind. Found the answer which is "No" the ground is not needed and "Yes" just match the wire colors. After switching over to the RCEXL ignition, I found that I did have to readjust the idle setting on my radio down as the idle RPM increased dramatically. Haven't checked the high end yet.

On_Final,
The G-20EI is the Amp hog, we have several in the club and everyone uses big ignition packs to fly. I have the G-26EI and it seems to be much better on the battery. I would say it draws like an old CH ignition. I fly with a 2800 Mah 4.8 VDC pack and get consistant 12 minute flights 5 times per session and the pack is good.
I like RC Excel ignitions and have converted my 3W-60 over to it and a Brison 3.2 at the Warbird over Texas event (in the pits) prior to flying. Whoever said plug and play is correct. Best dang aftermarket ignition you can buy.
Dont give up on Zenoah as its good stuff.

Appolgies for the quality of the pics these are the only ones I could find for now.

Hi Cap10b,
No intention of giving up on the Zenoah G20ei. It's one sweet engine except for the ignition drawing too much juice. Well, that is now hopefully fixed after my conversion to Rcexl. Can't find anyone here (Malaysia) who carries the Zenoah version of the Rcexl ignition so I got the one with the futaba type connectors.
Cut a servo extension in half and cut the connector off the Zenoah ignition. Soldered the male futaba connector to the connector from the Zenoah ignition. Slodered the female connector to the Zenoah ignition. So now, I can connect the Rcexl ignition to the engine and if I ever want to reuse the Zenoah ignition, I can just plug that back in as well.
After the conversion, the engine started right up on the first flip after I had primed it well and popped it. Not sure if you experienced this but right after starting, the engine's idle was way off and high. Took quite a number of clicks to bring it back down. But after the re-trim, the engine is running sweet again.
Thanks.
KC
