Default 3w 120 TOC

My brother just purchased a 120 toc edition....... it is supposed to be a higher performance engine used by the original ToC Pilots back in the good old days when Bill Bennet wass alive...... the motor supposedlyt is still not broken in yet.... what prop would be the right size....27x10 28x10? the original owner said it used a 30x10...but i feel its too big.... any first hand users with experience?

how would it compare to DLE111 or a 3w110

It'll be stronger than a DLE-111, but it is also a very heavy engine.

I'm running a 28x10 Mejlik on my ZDZ 120. The manual states it could swing a 30x10, but I'm thinking like you- might be too big. I've had this engine on a bipe and it's currently on my big Edge. The prop performed great on both airframes. I've always want to try a 29x10, but at a hundred bucks a pop, I'll be content.

Depending on the age of the 120. Flat head or rounded. I used a 27x10. the engine weighed 8.5lbs. Same as the 150. Dennis

Hi,

28 x 10 seems to be the right prop. It will turn a 30 x 10 but it really lugs the engine (mid 5000 range)

RPMS for a 28 x 10 should be in the 6000-6500 range.

the 120 is rated at slightly more hp than the newer 3w 110 but if propped for the torque, it will out perform the 110.

hope this helps

Elson

I have one of these old TOC 120's and ran a 27x10 or a 28x10. If you use a wooden prop its best to use the 27x10 due to the higher loads of the thicker blade.

Does anyone know if the new 3w120 uses the same rings as the old TOC 120? I'm looking at replacing the rings in my old TOC and would like to know if there still available.
