Whats the scoop on the OS 55. I was thinking about trying one but haven't heard much about them either way. Anybody got an opinion.

For the money spent, he's right. It's not a bad engine, but it generates fit issues not experienced with more conventional carb arrangements, while the power does not quite equal what is available with several other engines in the same size and price class.

get a DLE 55 rather. Cheaper, lighter, seems to fit many airframes easily and from gauging right arm size, starts easier too.

I don't here any overwhelming yeas, so I think I'll stick with the DLE.

I picked up one on sale for $400 odd something. I got it for not much more than a DLE. It is very quality. I have only broken it in 2-3 tanks on the ground but I will maiden this weekend. It do myself like the front carb, as it is easy access and the choke too. I have it in a round cowl Yak. My initial comments are all good, it runs perfect, doestn vibrate, transitions nice, idles beautiful and starts easier than my DLE30. The quality of the machine work and precision is much better than any DLE much better.

Who knows I may not like it once I fly, but I will report back.

I maidened my H9 Carden Yak yesterday. The motor was rough to start I had the breakin 22x8 prop on first and richer oil for breakin and then went with a 24 x8 prop and leaned the oil to 45:1, which I think I need to go 50:1. It was getting smoother last flight with less oil, ran kind of rough with the higher oil mix and sounded rich which I couldnt tune out of it with the needles, the only thing that helped was leaner oil mix. It pulls like a tractor and idles good and overall a good performing engine.

On second thought, I won't type what I was contemplating for this reply. However, a $600.00 engine using a paint stick propeller, using a break in oil, using a break in prop....

Keep reducing that oil content[X(] They run real smooth up to the moment they sieze up from melting down The oil quantity has absolutely nothing to do with how smooth an engine runs unless you are using too little oil. Whether or not you are astute enough to follow written manufacture directions and tune the engine has far more impact.

From the manual:

Use a fuel with increased oil content and set the needle a
little on the rich side. Too rich a needle setting may cause
misfiring or erratic running due to fouling of the plug.

Use a 25:1 fuel/oil mixture if the particular brand of oil
states 30:1. If the oil states 50:1, use a 30:1 mix. Set the
high speed needle l00~200 below maximum rpm. The low
speed needle need not be richened.

No need to carry out running-in on a bench nor with the
model fixed. Just fly the model with the above mentioned
fuel and needle setting.

A total of 10 flights (5~6 litters fuel) are required.
Avoid prolonged full throttle running at initial stage, and
gradually extend the full throttle running time.

Valve floater

Will it turn the 24x8. Seems like that would be a lot of prop for a 50? Usually i use the 22x8 Zoar. I have a vess prop 22b and i sometimes get overheating issues but it`s darn fast.
