Dle-20 and the Reactor Bipe is a great combo!

I love the way mine flies!

by all means I have flown many many os 2 and 4 strokes over the years and my question was not to infer os is an inferior product.on the contrary I still have my BX-1 and it has flown several warbirds very well.and I have my os 91's and wont part just because I loveto occasionally fly a profile or small sport bird.but I agree 18 to 20 dollar fuel versus 3.54 at last check is vital to me as I am retired.I dont entirely agree about adjustments requiring morefuss with gas.on the contrary the factory settings work quite well and walbros are simple towork with..

like anything else its all about personal choice and preferences.

hey how much is an os 120e almost brand new worth on the market/..

just in case you still not sure - DLE20

but if you can wait just a while - i see something even better on the horizon ........

I am a DLE 1.20 fan and I also have the OS FS-1.20P. I prefer the DLE 1.20 too.

What is on the horizon that could be better than a DLE 1.20 and still be a gasser? A hint would be appreciated. Tnx.

Im with TimBle....its all about the footprint of the engine and if it will fit the airframe to your satisfaction. I would go the website for specific info on the measurements and compare to your 120 then measure the airframe for fit. Very simple and free of charge The engine is a great engine, just needs a little break in and your in business

Good Luck

Joe bob no way the DLE will out turn the OS 120AX.

120FS yes 120AX no

120AX bone stock with muffler will turn a 16x8APC at 8,600 Put a Jett muffler and it turns the 16X8 at 9,600, 14.5X14.5 APC at 9,100, 13x13 APC at 11,100

My experience with the 120AX is that it is hard to keep the fire going. Ran a 16 X 6 and it would buzz the prop but in a maneuver and partial throttle, was likely to quit.

One advantage the DLE 20 has is if you really like it you will get lots more chances to keep on buying it since the OS 120 will outlast it several times over! Sorry for the sarcasm but the DLE 20 I have worked with for a fellow club member is not in the same class as the OS 120 4 Stroke I have flown for the last 10 years. I am sure it has similar performance but the quality isn't in the same ball park. As with so many of the Chinese gas motors you get what you pay for. DLE 20 isn't close to the quality of a Zenoah G-20. If you want a small gasser pay more and get the G-20. You will be able to leave it to your grandchildren in your will!

I will say the DLE 20 would be stronger than the OS 120 four cycle.

W8YE i never had any issues with the my 120's except the first one which i kept running it hot and then it would die. The 120AX 2 stroke is the strongest 120 out there. with that it is also the lightest which means it needs good cooling air to run correctly. I only run a OS four stroke plug also. no issues. When the 120AX over heats the head starts to loosen and it lose's power by sucking more air/lack of compression through the head and just gets hotter. it really needs more cooling fins in the rear of the cylinder and one more head bolt.

airraptor,

You might want to take a look at the Jett Engineering 1.20 2-stroke. Nothing else in it's class, and the OS isn't even close. In all fairness, it's not a mainstream product.

Lifer I already own a Jett 120 engine. The OS out turns it by about 200 rpm on most props and is about 3-4 ounces lighter. [X(]

Jett doesnt make the Jett 120 anymore he quit making them about 4-5 years ago maybe more.

IME, the DLE 20 produces more thrust than the 120AX

Timble

How does it put out more thrust if less power?
Second what does ground thrust do for you on the ground?
I am not dissing the DLE 20 at all.

how do you know it outputs less power? are you reading spec sheets?
Flight performance is what reveals all. When a DLE 20 outpulls the 120AX on the same plane with the same prop then its producing more thrust right. If it producing more thrust then its producing more power

the DLE20 with a stock mufffler, VS a 120 ax with a Bisson pitts exhaust, they perform about the same rpm my dle does 8400 with a xoar 17x6 good enough to 3d an 8# plane with authority

having had 2 120ax's and one DLE 20... i would not hesitate to buy a DLE20 over a 120ax...

Timble I like the DLE 20cc but it just doesnt make more HP glow engines make more power than a Gas engine will.

I will say that for a Gas engine the Dle 20 and 30 do make great power.

If the DLE made more power over the 120AX then the 120AX wasnt tuned correctly.

That Bisson pitts muffler really takes a bunch of rpm out of the 120AX where the DLE 20cc "muffler" is just really a big header. You put that same muffler on the 120 AX and i bet you would get around 1000 more rpm over the DLE.

nope never owned a DLE20 but have seen many posted rpm numbers and doesnt turn more than the AX. All the number i have seen posted were that it out turned the Saito 125 on 15% fuel by about 300-700 rpm prop depending and about 500 less than the 120AX that alone makes it one strong GAS engine.

If you get a AX hot if will be way down on power....... the AX is very light and with that doesnt have a bunch of aluminum to keep it cool. if ran lean in a low speed enviroment like hovering then yes the DLE will spin more rpm because it has larger cooling fins and more mass to stay cool.

run a 15x10 16x8 on a mustang type plane and no way the DLE will keep up.

I am not saying the DLE or AX is better both have thier place. i was just arguing the fact that the DLE will make more thrust and out turn the AX. lol
