who has used the DLE 111 and the DA 100
Hi, I'm looking for opinions from people who have used "both" of these engines. Not trying to start a war here I'm just wondering how the DLE stacks up to the DA? I have used a DA 100 before with perfect results.(wish I never sold it!!)

Dle makes a 111, not a 110. I have used both the DL 100, DLE 111, and DA 100. The DLe 111 is more powerful than a DA 100 but weighs a little more. Both are reliable engines. I do not see one being more dependable than the other at this point in time. However, I do see DLE as being less stable with component consistency between engine models. DLE is still changing the way they design the bottom end of their engines, which makes parts ordering a pain for the user since they will not know which particular version of a part is correct for thier engine.

OOPS, yeah I meant 111. As far as the weight goes I think the advertised weights of the DLE may include the mufflers. I looked at the DLE 111 manual and converted there gram weight to standard and I think the bare engine is the same as the DA 100 bare weight. Correct me if Im wrong please.
It's just kind of hard to pass up a compareable motor thats about half the price. (If it really is reliable.) Reliablility "IS" my biggest concern though!!! I know the carbs and ignition are different from the DA. Are they as good?

The 111 weighs a little more but the difference is far more than offset with the extra power. I have both engines and find the 111 the better of the pair where power is concerned. Once you learn the needles the 111 will dial in a little better as well.

Has anybody used full length pipes in the DLE 111? What were the results? I've seen some carbon fiber full lenght pipes that look and sound awsome!! They probably cost more than the motor though.[X(] Any links to these?

Hmmmm. Comparing power between a 100cc and a 111cc engine. Apples and oranges?11cc difference could be narrowed to a 9cc difference by comparing the power of the DLA111 Vs. the DA120. that comparison would swing the power needle against the peg in favor of the DA.
The current model of the DA100 is the DA100L which is over a pound lighter than the DLE. Depending on the application, the lighter weight can make a lot of difference.
I have both the DLE111 and the original, older model DA100. While both are good engines, I would give the DA the nod as the consistent, fiddle-free, starts easily every time, dependable engine.
Your results may vary .....

Yeah, I forgot the new DA 100's are the light versions. I was comparing the weight of the old DA 100 to the DLE 111. Are they about the same? Has anybody noticed any more vibration of the DA 100 light than the old DA 100? Sometimes lighter is not always better. Anyway's reliability is more important to me than the weight...
Any more opinions between the DA and DLE???

I believe the old DA100 is about the same weight (give or take a few OZ.) as the DLE111, after all that is the engine design DLE stole and copied (as best as they could). The DA100L is very light, very smooth and, very powerful.
I'll weigh in on the oil thingy. Use Stihl Hp Ultra. Folks use it at 32:1, 40:1 and I use it at 50:1. Redline would be my second choice but only because the Stihl is available locally.
If you use Amsoil you will harm and possibly kill thousands of innocent puppies and kittens. Anyone who tell you different doesn't like puppies or kittens.

Those carbon pipes are made by ES Composites in Utah. A pair of those an a set of headers will set you back about what the DLE will cost. They are very light (I had a pair) and very expensive. But they are very long so unless you need a lot more power than the engine will provide you might want to look into cannisters instead.
We really don't want to get into who stole what from whom. Ever wonder where DA got their original engine designs? Sheesh. BTW, I love puppies and kittens. Don't use Amsoil.

He's living alone at the moment so we might want to avoid that discussion No, there are no marital issues, just working a little ways from home. That doesn't change the crank thingie though.
If I had to make a choice between a v1 or v2 DA 100 and a DLE 111, the DLE wins hands down. But that's just me. Now if a DA 120 was tossed into the mix the call would go to the 120 if I had the coin to part with. I'd take a BME 116 over all three.

RE: who has used the DLE 111 and the DA 100
I have a Da-100 and a DLE-111. The Da I bought used. It runs great. It's on a 35% aeroworks extra 260. With a little running start the engine will take the plane verticle out of sight. Out of a hover, you gotta wait on it a bit. The DA is bit hard to prime on first run of the day. I rebuilt the carburetor, but found a problem with the pushrod ( It had a flexible nyrod pushrod). I am in the process of moving the throttlew servo to the firewall with a short solid pushrod. i hope my problems are solved here. The plane comes in at 30# with fuel.
The DLE is on a Carden Edge 540 35%. It has a little over 2 gallons thru it. I'm turning a mezlic 27x10 and the engine is a beast. What I've noticed about the DLE is that eats ignition batteries. I've been running a 4.8 nmhd 1800mh battery. On a full charge, the engine will nearly yank the firewall out. After 4 flights the engine acts like it goes lean. check the battery and it's low. The DLE needs at least a 6 volt system with high capacity, 2500mh. the Carden weighs 30#s dry, without fuel.
They are both great engines. I cannot speak of longevity as my DLE is new. My DA is many years old.
P.S. I had 2 da 50s break rings running Amsoil Dominator at 50:1

RE: who has used the DLE 111 and the DA 100
I`ve got both a da 100 and a dle 111and they both work well. When dle first came out they had first engine issuea like a lot of things do which concerned bearings.A friend of mine has one and had to send it in twice but the first time he sent it back, they didn`t put the up grades in it.i think they have resolved that issue.I had to send mine back, crank bearings went and wiped the upper end out.Apparently they got the upgrades in it as i have no issues with it what so ever and it really does me an exceptional job.My friend flies imac and is constantly practicing and has no issues with it.I use a 2000 ma nickle metal bat in my ignition and a 3800 on my 170 dle, also no issues at all,and every thing seems to go ok.I also went to bel-ray and you would have to see it to believe it to see the differance it made.I won`t use anything else.I`ve got my 111 on an old great planes extra 300,1-3 scale and i can point it up and nail it and it about leaves the wings on the ground.Just take a little time adjusting the carb and you shouldn`t have to mess with it again.Good luck
