I think what he is refering too is the way the advance curve comes in on the 20 ignition box, if i remember right you can use a 30 box in place of a 20 but not the other way around

I've run a DLE20 ignition box on a DLE55. It ran right well. If you were not told what was going on - you wouldn't notice the difference.

yes There is no diferece with both boxes. Are the same. Made in by Rcexl. Can be use this from a .40 in engine to a 100 cc single engine and works well if you fit correct the time.

The only dirference with rcexl ignitions is the cap and engine type single or twin.

Set your sensor to 28 to 30 Deg BTDC. Run like a top!! make sure you hear the snap as soon as it does that should be 28 to 30 BTDC my 2c..

The main reason the discussion of the DLE20 (#4) ignition unit came up is that they have a different advance curve algorithm from the usual RCEXL ignition.

Wow Learn something everyday.. I havnt ran across any trouble yet from the Dle 20. I have not had to time one either It cant be that bad. But I can tell you that the dle 20 kicks but when it's running like it should. I still cant sit here and believe the power this little gas engine puts out.. Unreal...

I looked at your Dossier. You love engine also.. I like the fact that you have taken the time and engines apart to show people how to locate the cam timming marks!! Keep up the great work.. And thanks for your time.. Back on dle 20 topic..

The DLE 20 ignition timing is normally just set with the sensor centered on the casting seam of the crankcase. This is not at the 28 degree mark as is usual practice for model airplane ignitions. According to my measurements, it is in the 33 to 34 degree before top dead center region. With the different advance curve that is in the DLE20 ignition unit, this works OK. If you are going to use a generic RCEXL ignition unit or one from a DLE55 you should set the ignition timing at 28 degrees before top dead center with a degree wheel.

Just in case anyone is curious, the airplane is my CMP 61" span Christen Eagle with a hopped up Homelite 30cc, shot in San Carlos, Mexico. I just loved how the pic came out, so I used it when I made the degree wheel.

Less than $4.00 ea at Advance Auto Parts or Auto Zone. Buy 10 and the price goes down to just under $3.00 ea. Considering I get several years service from each plug, I don't spend much on spark plugs.
