Any thoughts about these servos for Gas planes?
Hi y'all,
I need to get some of the thoughts on these servos. Has anyone used it or been using it on 69" to 80" wing span plane?
http://www.hobbypartz.com/kahaoubrmo14.html-> Can I use these servos on this plane ? http://www.nitroplanes.com/ni20moya1206.html
If yes, can you compare these servos with these of Hitec?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXUZ89&P=ML
Thanks in advance
Mody

I'm usng these in my NitroPlanes 69" YAK 54 powered by a YS 1.10 4-stroke glow engine. Futaba S3010 Standard High-Torque BB Servo. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXDTB3&P=SM.
Another Futaba option would be the Futaba S3305 High-Torque Standard Servo w/Metal Gears
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXDWF8&P=SM.
I'm using them in 76" 3D planes powered by 36cc gas engine and 1.60 cu in glow engines.
I have been flying both of those servos for years in 3D planes and haven't found the need to spend excessively for torque overkill.

I agree with rocketman on the torque overkill. We used to fly giant models with 50oz servos. Heck i have a 7 year old 1/3 scale cub that weigh around 30 pounds that has had stock 3004 servos in it all its life.I also have another 30 cc extra with stock spektrum servos no issues.I do have several planes with high end servos and i can feel the difference. But for everyday fun relaxing flying i dont need them.

I use 645´s almost exclusively. Best servos I have ever tried. Reliable, quite powerful and cheap.
On throttle/choke I normally use standard Futaba 3001 servos. Old-school reliable workhorses.

I prefer a servo that is a bit faster and has a bit better centering but the 645 is a good servo for a lot of applications.

RE: Any thoughts about these servos for Gas planes?
Guys,
Thank you very much for your input but I haven't been answered what I'm looking for.
Can anyone tell me about these particular servos?
http://www.hobbypartz.com/kahaoubrmo14.html -> Can I use these servos on my nitro models yak 54 120?
If these above mentioned servos are not very reliable, then rather than spending $32 on each servo can I use these servos?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXXCZ9&P=M If these are not the right servos, then I'm thinking futuba's S3010 or something lower than $32 Bucks.
Thanks
Mody

Is your plane worth more than 4$ If so stay away from Tower Pro servos. Cheap chinese junk. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. What does the plane maker recommend in torque? I agree the hitecs are good and so are the futaba's. Spend a little now or alot later.[:@] I use the 485's in my 1/4 scale biplane on a 6v battery for max torque, and there's no problem.

raptureboy,
You are absolutely right and this is what exactly I wanted to know. Plane is Yak 54 120 by nitro planes, and their manual says nothing about servos or anything
http://www.nitroplanes.com/ni20moya1206.html
May I use all 485 servos on it?.
Mody

Armody, it 's only a little plane but it's no comparison to a 1/4 biplane.
You will fly this at three times the speed and have large control surfaces under much larger strain.
I use 5645, they are faster and more powerful than the 645, but they use more power.
If you stack your plane and get a bigger one you can use those servos in it.
Maybe a bit of overkill but what is the price of the safety of everone at the field?
645 http://www.hitecrcd.com/products/ana.../hs-645mg.html
5645 http://www.hitecrcd.com/products/dig...hs-5645mg.html
It all comes down to what is the price of safety?
Regards Mark

I would not go with plastic gear servo's on this plane. I lost a 1.20 Extra do to an aileron servo stripping a gear. it was the CMP Extra that is sold at Nitroplanes. If it were a Cub, a Trainer , or even a Warbird with smaller control surfaces, no big deal.

If by stock servos you mean 821's then you're way beyond the manufacturers own warnings about them.

Go to HobbyKing website and you can get great mg digital high volt servos for not much over $4. Definately go mg and the rest is optional. The servos if they really do have the torque stated will work, but the cheap plastic gears will not. The old saying that you get what you pay for is definately not as true as it once was. Allmost all servos come from china so go chinese they need our money and they are thankfull for it.

... To match the amount of torque in these servos, you would be paying more than $100 for comparable Futaba or JR servos.

RE: Any thoughts about these servos for Gas planes?
in answaer to your question yes the sg5010 servos will work ......the only drawback is how large your surfaces are they are not a metal geared servo. so while I have used them on a 25% sbach 342 and a 88" extreme flight yak-54 there is always the possibility of failure.
for just a few dollars more you can go to troy built models and pick up a set of powerhd 1501 servos that are twice as strong with dual ball bearings and 215 in/oz of torque for a very low price.

Do not use these unless you expect them to fail and you ar 200+ kilometres from anyone you can harm.
5645 Hitec are the way to go, but expect to use a bigger battery, digitals will drain more.
