DA50cc not used for 7 years
Dears,
A friend at my field is selling a DA50cc that hasn't been used for 7 years,
after he finished breaking inn the engine he didn't use it for 7 years, and I think I would buy it, what you think guys? I need your technical opinion

A cheap carb kit and carb cleaning is the most you should have to do unless there are things you have not been told of? If it turns smooth and there is no external damage and the price is right I would go for it.
Yesterday I fired up a little Thunder Tiger 36 that I have had for 6 years, a little tweaking and it runs well. I know it is not a gasser (I have more than several) but if stored reasonably most engines will respond well and perform as designed.

I'm not a gas engine guy, but I have glow engines that have sat around for 30 years that fire up with no problems. The only thing that concerns me about engines is that a lot of guys don't know how to break them in properly or run them properly. If they screwed up the break in or treated the engine poorly then it will never be right without replacing pistons and sleeves as well.
If it's dirt cheap then I'd buy it if it looked and felt OK. If the price is a little more premium I'd want to see it run first.

The gassers have sealed main bearings - is that right? And needle bearings on both rod ends, or just on the big end? If the mains are sealed, no problem there for sure. Has anyone ever seen a rusted rod/needle bearing?

I have to agree with the guys above. Buy a carb kit and replace the gaskets etc.
Run some fresh gas through it, assume that the engine WAS NOT broken in and run the oil mix at 32:1 for the season.
Other that that - if you are REALLY concerned... package it up and send it off to DA and ask them to inspect.
Just be sure that you get the engine for a good price as you have to cover the risk of rusty bearings etc.
That being said... it could be in great shape! and all you NEED, is a plane to mount it in. :TU:

I would buy it if the price is right. Most likely it is fine except for a new plug and a carb kit as many already mentioned. Even if not, it can easily be fixed. I took in a DA-100 twin on trade a while back. Just for the heck of it I contacted DA, and they said they would make it like new with new pistons, rings, seals, gaskets, etc. for only $150.00 including labor. Much less for a single I imagine.
