Am Looking at a Maloney 100cc gas engine, wondering of anyone has any experience with this particular engine or brand of engine??

About 25 years ago, a fellow flyer at a field in Kansas tried like the dickins to get a 100 to work and finally gave up. I remember a few threads over the years on these spaces that related similar experience.

Good luck!

I have a Maloney 125, flew it in a Balsa USA Citabria Pro many years ago. nice little motor. Requires a starter to get it going. As I remember, the 100 was low on power output, and thats why World Engines improved it into the 125. Also mine put out quite a bit of rf noise, so had to keep the radio receiver and battery towards the rear of the airplane. But with todays 2.4 radios, I don't think this will be a problem?

I had one once. I bought for $30 and sold it for $50 so my experience was good. I never tried to run it.

Ok, thanks everyone..  I suppose that answers my question..  guess it wouldn't be worth the $250 asking price...  I will keep watching for the right engine to come along..

Thanks again, Craig.

For a gas engine of that size try the RCGF 15cc. Mine runs quite strong.
It comes with electronic ignition and the Chinese manufacturer has two US distributors that care for the product.

The Maloney 100 is almost worthless for anything but to set on the shelf.

The 125 is usable but there are better alternatives out there

I had one of the first 125's that Maloney imported back in the early 80's. I put it on a Modeltech Dragon Lady. It flew it fine, kind of like a G-23 flys a 1/4 Cub, not a powerhouse, but way more than marginal. As someone stated before, it required an electric starter to get it going, but other than that, it had great throttle response and on a 15X10 prop it pulled well. It was a reliable little engine for its time and sipped the gas, but by todays standards its a turd. I think they were only around $130.00 at the time.

Had one on a Robinhood 80. It leaked air around the plastic adapter. If you could keep it sealed it ran good. I convinced the dealer he should take it back.

The Maloney engine I was looking at was a 100cc, as I am looking for an Engine in the 80cc -110 +/- range.. I am looking for an engine to put on my 94" ws 16 +/- lbs Airframe only probably 24 +/- All up flying weight cap 232.. I don't think that any of the engines in the 20cc range will fill the bill..

I cannot afford the more expensive engines, I.E. DA, 3W, etc. I have been considering the DLA 112, or the SE112, etc.

thanks, Craig.

Edit: I went back and looked at the Add again, and it said Maloney 100 rc (I read it as cc, not rc) now I understand why others were telling me about the 20cc size engines.. I am now under the impression that the Maloney is 1.0 ci, and not 100cc thus my confusion!!

Thanks again, Craig.

Yes, it was a small engine that hardly had enough power to pull its own weight.

These are getting a good report over in another forum. Comes with a pitts style muffler for $550 and I think the shipping was included.

GP engines are not related to Malony engines not even by size.

Thanks, Texastbird...

I am going to see if I can find that thread...  for the same price (or similar) I was looking at the DLA 112 (111 ?) twin, as I thought it would look great in the Caps cowl..  anyone here using the DLA, SE, etc engines...  any and all feedback is greatly appreciated..

Craig.

"New Engine testing GP 176cc twin and 88cc single" on the Flying G***ts gas engine forum. I've had my eye on one of these when I am able to start on a new, larger plane than my 55cc size. At our field almost all the 100cc size planes have a DLE 111 or the DA100. Both seem to perform well.

They are one of the smoother running door stops out there capable of holding a door open in a 15/20 mph wind.
Past that they are a relic from a bygone era.

Competitively quiet in door-stop mode too.

Thanks, TexasTbird,

I have now checked into that forum, and am currently reading it..  I am into it about 6 or seven pages..  seems good so far, although I have yet to see where someone has purchased one, and given a flight review..  but then again, I am only into about page seven of 20+ pages..

looks good so far.

Thanks again...

to tell you the truth, I was looking at the DLA 112 (111?), because I really wanted to have a twin in my cap, but as I read about the GP88, I might go with that one..  It seems that they are trying to build a quality engine that is a bit easy on the wallet (relatively).   I am currently on page 20 of 40+ pages to read, and now I am seeing that there are a couple of folks (as of Jan, 2012. still reading the forum posts.) that have these engines, and so far are giving good reviews..  will keep reading, and see how they are liking the engines after having them for several months...

Craig.
