Default reduction starters

I'm thinking I need a more powerful starter.
I see an ad for Miller belt reduction starters.
Has anyone used one?
How much do they cost?

I have several starters now, but they won't turn over 40cc gas engine.

What are my options?
I'd like to keet it at 12 volts, so I only need to tote one battery around.

The Miller is a 4:1 reduction which I think makes them too slow.

Therefore, I run the starter on 24V instead of 12V and that makes them just right.

Miller has a package of a reduction starter and a 24v battery. It will turn over your Chevy

They don't have a website

Miller RC Products

I like the red Sullivan 3" insert better than the blue Miller one

In making up my starter, I copied the Mac Hodges starter that he sells but mine is left handed.

You have to use the biggest switch you can get from Advance Auto Parts.

Also notice that the switch contacts are shunted with a Radio Shack cross-over capacitor.

If you don't use a big switch and the capacitor, the switch will last only once before it blows up.

I bought the Miller and Dynatron starter at a swap meet. I think it was $90 and had never been used.

The batteries were $5 ea at the electronic surplus store.

The red Sullivan insert came from my Sullivan Megatron that I bought at a Modeler's estate sale.

You do not need the expensive Dynatron motor to drive the Miller Persuader on 24 V. The 4:1 reduction provided by the Persuader reduces the current draw of the starter motor so that you can use a standard Sullivan starter motor on 24V. You need 24V to get the speed required after the reduction. I use 8 A123 cells.
I have had a standard motor on a Persuader since 1999. I have used it to start a BME 102.

I have several Dynatrons that I bought at swap meets

My biggest problem is power transfer from the cone to the spinner

Get the Sulllivan Megatron if you don't want to mess with gear reduction option. It will crank over 40cc on 12 volts.
You can then use the starter on 24v for bigger motors up to 100cc size.

The previous owner of my Megatron always started his DA50 with the starter hooked to his truck battery.

Do you have any part numbers for the starter cone and insert?

The drill may have cost $30 but the Sullivan 3" cone and rubber insert will set you back another $90 from Tower

Not a Sullivan. Both are Hobbico, part numbers are
# HCAP3325 - The aluminum part, At $14.99
# HCAP3330 - The insert, At $6.29
As for the drill, I'm sure we all have a cordless power drill.
Which by the way with an extra battery was $160
