With the information given, it seems about right.
Propeller type and muffler however can have a huge impact on engine rpm. The Xoar loads an engine a bit more than other props. You get about 4.2hp, which would be typical for a good pitts muffler, and better than the standard Zenoah side muffler.

Is the Xoar propeller a Lance style propeller? Thats what I have on my 1/3 scale Cub, but I installed a GT-80 and swing a 24X8 Lance style Xoar.

Sorry, I did'nt see Pup, what you need on a WWI bird is the Xoar Simitar prop. I have a Xoar 24X10 Simitar on my 1/3 scale Fokker D-VIII, it also has a GT-80 on it.

Around these parts we use a Zinger 24x8 on a 1/3 pup with G 62. Plenty of power, most of the time only using part throttle.
Zingers work fine, a pup is not a high performance aircraft...cheap too if you have a nose over and break it.[]

The prop the engine likes and the prop the airplane likes can be two very different animals. The G-62 likes to turn up for max performance (usually over 7000 RPM) but the Pup likes a lot of pull but not much airspeed. The Pup will be happiest with a fairly low pitch, large diameter prop where the G-62 would probably be happier with something with a smaller diameter and more pitch .... so a compromise is in order.

Your 23-8 will probably work just fine but 6200 is kind of low for the G-62. You might also want to try something like a 24-6 or even a 23-6 if you can find one. The Pup will tell you if it is happy by the way it performs. The G-62 will also be happy even if it is out of its maximum performance RPM range if well cooled and lubed.

What the 62 likes is very depending on the muffler construction. I have data on both original side dump muffler and pitts mufflers.
The original muffler lets the engine peak at 9000 rpm with a very wide power curve top. The pitts has it's best power at 6500 rpm with a quite flat curve top, so 6200 rpm static is not bad at all, especially for a cub.
The Milton muffler is more powerful, and it seems to do it's job at lower rpm.

Mejzlik 22x10 it will spin up to 7100 rpm's The engine can happily spin this all day. Prop pulls great This is the benchmark prop for the g62. You will love the performance

Excellent prop - engine combination but I'm not sure I would recommend that for a very high drag Sopwith Pup. That ain't no 3-D plane there!

Yeah, I would stick with a 6 or 8 inch pitch for that Pup I believe....

Precently I´m using a Fiala 26x8 on my G-62 equipped 1:3 scale Tri-Pacer. The tips have been rounded to make it look more scale, and the engine spins it at around 6300 (6100 before rounding the tips). Plenty of power for a 37lb big fat pig. :-)

P.S. I´m using the stock twin outlet silencer, with a 2-into-1 collectorpipe. Very noisy unfortunately, but the fact that I hardly ever gets over 1/2 throttle helps a lot.

you must be talking of the 80cc boxer engine, not the 62cc single?

You mean me? Nope, a stock mag G-62.
But it seems to me that the Fiala type propeller loads quite a bit less than the same size Menz for example. I used to fly with a Menz 26x8, and it would do around 5300 rpm. That was on a different silencer though (Toni Clark piper style).

The bigger diameter propeller helps lower the idle, as I get a reliable idle of around 1000-1100rpm on the Tri-Pacer.

It was the 2-in-one collector pipe that confused me. My bad!
