surely the point of a bicycle is to pedal....

And the point of a bicycle with a gasoline engine on it is to avoid pedalling, inusrance, licenesing, high fuel costs, parking problems and that sort of thing.

As someone has already stated the big problem would be oil delivery unless you modified it to take a premix fuel or you would have to install an inverted system of some sort similar to the full scale stuff like on our pitts we had. I really dont know how it works but I'm sure a quick google and you would be fairly fluent. I'm sure if someone was handy with some machine tools it wouldn't be that hard to make and possibly have a small market. Would be cool to change the oil on your RC plane like the real thing. Also as far as full scale some systems have a time limit on the inverted system due to loosing oil pressure. Our pitts seemed like it would go all day long but trust me inverted flight is very uncomfortable. If you've never done it you will hate it at first . Trust me.
Our model 12 my wife and I are building will have a 2 minute inverted time limit due to the oil system. Of course I thought that wasn't long enough until I started doing some inverted stuff in the pitts and now understand that 2 minutes is plenty of time of sustained pushing maneuvers for the body.
I wish I knew someone close to me into machining and RC planes cause I'd love to try and build some of this stuff.

4 strokes engines are less powerful, more complex and heavier. Gas engines are less powerful and heavier. Combine the two and I'd have to ask not, "Why don't we have more 4 stroke gassers", but instead ask, "Why do we have any 4 stroke gassers".

well the NGH isnt very strong but i would use them in a twin project of mine. I bet i could work on the head and compression some to get more out of it.
The roto motor 35 spins a 20x10 at 6,000 so its very close to the others out there. I bet it will be under 400 bucks for it....

My turn!
Why don't we have any RC Airplane Hit and Miss engines?
Here's mine. It weighs 57 pounds and puts out .5 HP at 450 RPM

RE: Why don't we have more 4 stroke gassers?
I predict that 4 stroke gas engines wii be more & more popular as all the bugs are worked out. A 4 cycle engine puts out a lot of torque to turn a prop and thats what its all about. They have a more pleasant sound also and good on fuel. Look for more of themin the future. Best Regards Capt,n

RE: Why don't we have more 4 stroke gassers?
Hello, Just look at my threads here in the Forum of the KOLM Engines;
I am flying the 50cc KOLM Engines in CMPRO ZERO: first video with props an rpms:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsXsU...hannel&list=UL
ZEROO:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2nxO...hannel&list=UL
and the 65cc KOM in my Focke Wulf Dora, in the first video you can see the Props with rpms......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0g_Azjfc3mA
FW Dora first flight:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DEbe...hannel&list=UL
ME 109 with 100cc inline
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjpG9dACw9c
BOXER 100cc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAGWa...hannel&list=UL
135cc Inline with 270, not 180 degrees geometric desing (like a V-Engine, but in inline optic ) )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrLjk4Gl2Vs
These engines are smooth and powerful running, permanently updated and modified (in the little factory there are a few high power cnc machines used, so its possible to modify immediately)
and highest possible quality of materials is used.
They will be available by vogelsang aero
(I have2 engines of Kolm now and I'm already a great KOLM ENGINES fan now)

RE: Why don't we have more 4 stroke gassers?
There are a lot of 4 stroke gas engines out there right now but they are all at a premium price point. Nothing wrong with that but most cannot or will not afford them.
They are becoming more common now so you can expect to see more manufacturers bringing them to the market.
For now you will only see the 4 stroke engines coming from the companies that make top of the line engines or specialize in 4 strokes.
I'm a little surprised that the Chinese haven't copied a four stroke yet.

RE: Why don't we have more 4 stroke gassers?
It will still take another year or two before the Chinese can commercially produce cheap and reliable small capacity gas 4-strokes (say <15cc for <$200) suitable for planes. The tooling and machining costs, and quailty assurance requirements, are an advance on 2-stroke manufacture and it has taken a few years for the Chinese to get these simpler engines reliable and at a cheap price.
However, it is only a matterof time. In the meantime, Saito is converting all their 4-strokers to gas to try and build on their capitalisation and to build market share. It is inevitable that they will have to edue their costs as the Chinese come into the market to stay competitive.

RE: Why don't we have more 4 stroke gassers?
That china made 4 cycle gas engine looks like a ENLARGED Magnum 4 stroke engine.....kinda ! I agree it will take quite some time for china to make a good reliable 4 stroke GAS engine. I bet the first production run engines will need to be improved....just like the other china made 2 cycle gas engines...........
