Default DLE55RA

Well Im supprised there is not posting just for this great new motor.

I don't like to get a motor untill others have tired them out first to see if there are any bugs.

Well I think this motor is great, as it will let me put a masive DLE55 in the same place as a DLE30 used to go as it do not weigh much more and dose not take up that much more space.

Ok, well I got me new DLE55RA yesterday from Troybuilt modles, as I have several DLE motors and Ifigured it was worth the risk.

So my first inpressions.

I love the angle back plug and rear muff, this is why I got it, Im putting it in a 74in ESM Corsair, with a Reg DLE55 it would not work well as the muffler out let coused issues.

I love the fact the carb has a nice metal barb fuel fitting

A bigger throttle arm to help out.

All bolts and locking washers are nice.

I put it on my test stand today, and once primed, it started with 4 flips, breaking it in with Xora 22X8 prop for the first gal on the stand.

I have no rpm data yet as Im giveing it at least 2 more cycles.

Yup, this RA layout is the way to go, it fits in with so many more models. I'm thinking about getting the 35RA, should be great for 70" warbirds and aerobatic models. It might even be possible that the 35RA will make it into pattern competitions.

NO is the answer because of the ports.

I am rebuilding the motor mount plywood on a G.P. P atty Wagstaff. It had a Fugi motor on it and I plan on a DLE-55 replacement.
There are a lot of holes in this firewall plywood. How thick would you recamend to mount a DLE-55? Thanks

!/4" to 3/8 quality aircraft ply is all that is needed. Don"t worry too much if you need to open it up for the carb either. Any material in the center inside the stand offs is not contributing any to strength.

Can anyone compare the two 55's in terms of motor mount stand off distance? There is no info on Tower or DLE from what I see to tell me if there is any difference in the mounting stand off lengths. My guess is there is no change but Id like to confirm.

Looks like a promising engine and Im thinking of getting one. I can tell you the OS 55GT is HUGE in comparison so if hiding the engine in the cowl is your concern the OS is hard to work with on typical scale models.

Thanks!

So I determined there must be no difference and ordered the engine last night, lets see how this goes! I used an ad code on Tower to get $50 off and so I ordered the digital tach, total was only $405 with 2 day shipping.... Not bad!

So have you got the 55RA yet?
If so, have you run it?

I want to put one into one of these

Hi

I just received my new DLE-55RA , and , I am quite impressed . At first look ,.... very clean and well packed . The first thing I noticed was that there was no tube , comeing from the crank-case to the carb ,................... finally . I think this is one of the items , that makes it look clean . The engines supports look very beefy . This is an engines built expressly for RC through and through . I really like the slanted plug look , lowers the profile . And of course , lets not forget about the ignition system , finally ,.................. we can use a 2 cell lipo ,............... what took them so long ? .

I now have a , dle-55RA , a DLE-35RA X2 , and a DLE-20 .

I'm considering this motor but, I need to know the length from the back of the carb to the back of the prop for cowl spacing.............can't find a 3 view drawing with measurements. Anyone got a motor and tape handy?
I'm assuming the rear muffler does not extend past the back of the carb............am I right?

Please check my attachments. It's looking like 171mm to the standoffs.

My friend just swapped out a DA50 with a DLE55ra and discovered it was about 1/4" to 3/8" longer due to he rear muffler.
To get a nice space at the spinner he might have to cut back the engine box.

Correct, different. Please check my attachments for a good side by side of both.

Pinch off the fuel line to carb with a hemostat and continue to start it. When & if it starts remove the stat & see if it keeps on running. Let us know as you go. Good luck .
