Default What Airplanes are you Installing a Mintor22cc gas engine in?

Just started a new thread for a new engine. What Airplanes do you have a Mintor 22cc gas engine in? Also what Airplanes do you think may be a good match for a Mintor 22cc engine. Thanks Capt,n

Hey Capt'n

My Mintor 22 is in a 70" Revolver. I had installed a DLE 20 but I changed it over to the Mintor. I have not flown this plane yet as it is too bloom'n hot where I live. It's 3:20pm and is 122 degrees on my patio thermometer (in the shade). I may not fly this for another month or so. When the temps get down to 100 or less I'll take it out to fly.

I have no linkage set on the choke. I can reach inside with a long blade phillips and pull the choke back until it locks to the throttle arm.

I'm trying to stuff it in my 1/6 scale Holman Fi 156 Storch. It's a very tight fit ,but it will be nice to have the power without using glow fuel. I had fitted it with a Saito 125 but there is only room enough for a 10oz tank and thats not much flight time on a Saito 125. Still trying to work it out . I love the Mintor but may have to build a different plane for it.

That is a good Idea to wait untill the weather cools down. I think about 75 degrees is the limit for when I break in a new engine. I use redline oil and recreational gas that has no mentanol in it. That Revolver sure looks nice. I bet you will have a lot of fun with that combo. Best Regards, Capt,n

I was going to fly my AW 260 Profile today , but got company (my Grandson) and he had his cycle so we went for a little cruise stopping at canoe lawnches on the White River. Then we are going too celebrate his Birthday at My Daughters place. PS....the Grandson can really fly RC airplanes good. In fact I will let him fly any airplane I have. Capt,n

Aeroworks Pro X260. I have over 100 flights on it. Excellent plane and engine combination. The Mintor is the best overall of the 4 different brands of engines I have in this size range.

Seagull Models SpaceWalker II.
I agree on the SpaceWalker, and Seagull makes some nice ARF,s that would work nice with the Mintor 22cc engine.

Cap'n,

In RC Groups I think I have talked a fellow into using the Mintor 22 in this plane:

He was posting all over the internet trying to decide on power, including the maker of the plane and at least one Mintor site. It seemed perfect to me for the 22 based on weight, type, size, etc. and the intended (scale) application. He did not want to spend the money for the 120 - 150 4 cycle glow engine, and liked the idea of gas anyway. I told him the original recommendation of a 1.2 two stroke glow seemed overkill, and the factory was back-pedaling on that recommendation anyway. I suspect that their "chinglish" recommendation was meant to be 1.2 four stroke anyway. Anything meant for 1.2 4 stroke glow is probably good to go with a Mintor 22 or equivalent .

Do you agree??

I will be installing my Mintor 22 in this model http://ecsvr.com/abm/shopexd.asp?id=1987.  Not sure when the build will be completed as I have a more pressing build project to finish.  I will be posting pictures and updates as the build gets going.  In the mean time, I will continue running the Mintor 22 on my test engine stand.

Well I made my first flights on My AeroWorks 260 Profile today. I had all the throws set pretty slow for the maiden flight. It only needed 2 clicks of up elevator and nothing else. Once up in the air I kinda just flew easy with some figure 8 for pratice and too get the feel of a new airplane. It flew super smooth and I liked how it responded to throttle change. There was no change in flight (like up & down) as different throttle setting was tried. I new I had to make that first landing...and to my surprize it landed so good I could not believe it! So I took it right back up and landed a couple times more...they ended being 3 point landings with no bounce whatsoever. I do need to speed the ailerons up...they are way to slow for me. Total time flying close to a hour and it was geting dark here in Mich at 8:50 PM with a few coluds in the west towards Lake Michigan. This bird is a keeper with the Mintor 22cc gas enginethat ran really well. Best Regards, Capt,n

My Mintor 22 is due from FedEx on Friday. I want to go ahead to get a battery pack for the ignition on the way. I know this ign. can take more than 6 volts. I guess I will get a 5 cell NIMH. Is this the ticket?? I don't have charging capability for any of the more modern / exotic batteries at the moment, so I want to use what I am familiar with.

Stay with a 4 cell pack, lighter weight, not going to get a hotter spark with the 5 cell.

AJ...has got it right...go with the 4 cell for ignition. In fact I have read where some engines had a miss with the 5 cell and tried a 4 cell and the engine miss went away! Best Regards, Capt,n

Sure wanted to fly and hear that Mintor engine again...but today was really windy, so I worked on catching up on yard & house jobs.

Hey Captinjohn

Been seeing you on all the other Mintor 22 threads. This is a great idea!

My Mintor 22cc is going into the newly released 3DHS 70" Velox Revolution. I have the engine and plane but this dang thing called a "job" keeps getting in the way. Finally got a few days off coming up so I'll get some pics up soon.

Yes I like the Mintor 22cc engine a lot and like to spread the word about them. I flew the AW 260 again yesterday and I am really loving the combo. The engine does not have a mid-range "burble" to it and just sounds great. The Landings are real easy to do and 3 point landings can be done quite often. I had too much work to do today too fly.
Well maybe tomorrow for sure. Capt,n
