Well I got one of the Bennet Mufflers, great design, VERY strong, however, on running the same prop as I was brfore on the standard 55RA muffler, I was now at 103 dB at 3 metres, and the RPM's were down by approx 400 rpm. This is with a APC T6 prop (I am racing it in a mustang).Put the original DLE muffler back on, and dB is back to "just" make the limit (98), but the RPM's are back up to where they want to be.
As soon as I started the engine with the Bennect muffler, it sounded cackly and harsh, but the outlet tubes on the Bennet muffler are much smaller than the original muffler, so apart from the actual size of the muffler, I think the tubes are choking the engine.
I have had to go back to the supplied muffler, just hope it holds together.
My 2c worth.

20-25 flights max.

Hi
If I remember correctly , the allen bolts that holt the original muffler are inset , ( inside the muffler ) . What I mentioned to a few DLE 55 RA owners ( myself included ) , is to replace the allen bolts with longer ones , and large washers . . This holds the whole body of the muffler , and stops it from vibrating apart . To date , one member has many ,many flights , and his is holding ip strong . Although it is ,……….. still a very cheap muffler .
Just adding some info .

I don't own a DLE-55RA but I noticed that earlier in this thread some one said they couldn't find a Bisson muffler for this engine. Bisson makes strong mufflers that actually do muffle. That muffler option is now available because Bisson shows it on their web site at http://www.bissonmufflers.com/en/muf...ing_id=1138766 .
The muffler looks like the rear exhaust inverted Bisson mufflers that I bought for my PTE-36R 36cc engines. (see photos below)

Bennett mufflers (really just exhaust diverters) have always been know to be a strong, reliable product but not much of a muffler. They were OK in their day but I feel there are better choices today. I'd try a J-tec as first choice. They actually muffle a bit and are a quality product that will hold together. Prices are competitive.

Well,,,,
I have the Bennet Muffler, and its really strong, but as Truckracer says, more an exhaust diverter. Very noisy.
Anyway, I bit the bullet after my original DLE muffler fell to bits, and now have a bisson. made just for the DLE 55RA.
A lot bigger in volume, and it is made of thicker material, all of which should help quieten it down a bit, but still allow the engine to breathe.
Had to modify the firewall a bit to make it fit, but its on.
Will hopefully get to test it this next weekend.

Has anyone used a canister with this engine? I see a DLE front dump canister kit for $109. With the stock muffler problems I'm wondering if the flex header is of better quality.

I am using the 32 oz tanks with mine. I like to be able to get long flights for the demo flights at events. 16oz is just not quite enough. I think the fuel consumption is around 1oz a min. @ full throttle.
Here is my bolt mod to keep my muffler together. It seems doing this from the beginning, should keep the thing from falling apart.

The other important factor is operating RPM. If you have it loaded down to operate in the mid 6's, you will get more fuel economy than lightly loading it and running it at low to mid 8's RPM.
BTW, a 16 oz tank is what I use, but I fly at 1/3 - 1/2 throttle 90% of the flight time. I get 16-18 min flights

Thanks for the replys. Thats about what I thought because I can get 20 to almost 30 on my Q42cc's on a Prime Stick and TF Stinson SR9. And I use a 32oz on my BME102 so was thinking 16oz to 20oz. It will be going in the Topflite FW-190 85" span and most of the time I cruse and use full thd. on up lines.
May get the 16oz and 32oz then could switch out if I need too or use the 20oz Dubro I have.

When you use 20:1 instead of 30:1 for the DLEs? Will you suppose to see any noticable difference in performance?
( just because I prefer to maintain one tank of oil mix instead of 2)

I think 20:1 may be good for 10 and 15cc gas engines which dle has none.

I have been using 32:1 for years, and as "thepamster" said, its in the DLE manuals for 30-40 : 1
I went with the standard 32:1 and its been perfect.
