seems i have cured my muffler problem by cleaning the 3 pieces and bolting it together using no sealer.retighten after first couple of flights and don't use gasket between muffler and engine.thinking of putting it on the escapade mx i currently have with ys 53 on.the ys is a great engine, but i like the way the 10cc runs also.

i'm sure the hobbistar 60 is a great plane, but its a lot of plane for the 10cc.being high wing,it should fly it,but don't expect a fast plane

Please tell me more about the Escapade mx. Is she a good flying plane? Any downsides? If it balances with the YS, wouldn't it be nose heavy with the 10cc?

its really a great plane.taxi on the ground is a little rough from which you can tell from take off videos on you tube, but the plane really grooves in the air if you like fast flying planes.i can say for the price, you can't go wrong.be gentle with the take off and don't stab it and she is great.i haven't put the 10cc on it yet to see how it will balance.if i'm able to put the ignition box close to cg,i think it should be fine and i use 1300 mah life batteries which i can also play with past cg.also if your field is grass like ours it helps a lot too..you know every plane has its own characteristics that you get used too..great planes arfs are my favorite kits..my first glow plane which i still have stinger ii is really sweet.if your like me,i love my 46 size planes..hope this helps.....Craig.. ps i also have a ys 70 i'm thinking of using..that should wake it up

Thanks Craig. I'll check for some videos! Another nice flying and cheap plane is my Razor 3D from Tower.

Ernie,
Don't know if you ever bought any great planes arfs, but the only complaint i ever had was the monokote most of the time will have to be ironed.I use heat gun, myself.

+1 , they aren't the lightest either, but they fly well.

Without reading the whole thread, has it been a good engine?

At maybe 15 tanks of fuel through it, I'll give it a thumbs up!

Oh, and one other thing. I was pretty sure I'd be OK, but confirmed it this afternoon. 20cc engines are supposed to run 32:1 fuel/oil mix? They run fine on the 20:1 that the 10 needs. It's not soaking wet underneath, in fact I noticed no difference after a day of flying. Carb did need to be tweaked, but this engine hasn't been run since last summer, so I don't know if it was that or the difference in oil. HS needle was maybe a blade width rich. That's it, so no big deal either way. Noticed no difference in power. It's in a 70" GP Revolver, so it's kind of a hot rod. Pretty sure I would have noticed much difference in power, but in all fairness it was not tached before and after.

Point is, I'm no longer concerned about running 20:1 in my 20cc engines. We can still have just the one container of fuel for the 10 and the 20's. Will check out how a 30cc does on 20:1 when I get a chance, but I suspect I'll see similar results. -Al

I finally got more flights on my J3 Cub with the 10cc evo and it gets better and better every time. I had a couple of dead sticks last week, but I adjusted the low speed needle and that solved that. I now have the 12 x 6 prop on it, but have not flown it since putting it on. It was a real hot rod with the 11 x 6 on it. Can't wait to fly with the bigger prop.

After 3 gallons the engine really came alive and was able to really tune it and it has been running fine. It takes a loooong time to break in fully and during that time it could become frustrating for some if they have limited experience tuning an engine. Just follow the instructions in the manual and be patient and it will be a fine.

I am having trouble with my Evo 10 cc right now. It ran well for about a dozen or so flights (except it did have a tendency to quit suddenly without notice sometimes) but now refuses to run at all. I haven't had the opportunity to trouble shoot it as yet bus I suspect the ignition is the issue.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

Check your battery and spark plug..Takes a while to break engine so don't let it idle too low..

Yes check for spark first. Some have reported problems with plugs but I am still on the originals. If no spark it could be the plug but also check the magnet in the hub and make sure it's still there. Check the sensor and wiring back to the ignition. Check the battery and make sure it is functioning properly, and check the switch.

Brian,
Fired up the evo 15cc this past week and I think I'm gonna really like it.Its on a 50 size katana so it should do really well, hopefully fly it tomorrow. The ringed engine suits gasoline more I think.

Yes, my 15gx acts just like my other ringed gassers and probably better suited for first timers rather than the 10gx. I am liking the 10's more and more as they get beyond the 2-3 gallon mark.

Switch, battery and spark plug were all checked. The problem seems to be a bit more complicated than that. I strongly suspect a defective ignition.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

jedijody wrote a post regarding troubleshooting ignitions. It was intended for Rcexl, but thinking it will apply here as well. It's up in the "Newbie to Gas" thread at the top of this "Gas Engines" heading, 2nd page, post #36. You might get some ideas with a read through that?

just for giggles... try a new spark plug .... I had a plug that appeared to be working when checked, but the engine wouldn't run consistently with it installed... new plug and problems went away immediately.

OK, I have a couple of new plugs on order and I will try one when they arrive.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

Hey mattnew, I tried a new spark plug today as you suggested and the engine ran great on the ground. I will give the engine and plane a good work out tomorrow. It looks as though you may have been correct about the old spark plug. It tested and looked OK but would not run. I guess it is easy for these small spark plugs to fool us. Thanks for your input.

Best wishes and good safe flying.
