Default Dead Ignition

In a earlier post I had a problem with my 3W ignition. I sent it to Gerhard to get it repaired and he said it was dead and I had to buy a new one or a used one. My question is: Can a dead ignition be repaired? It's a 4.8v 3W blue dot ignition and I am curious because if it can be repaired it might be worth the effort. I did buy the used one with a one year guarantee. Thanks
