Default DLE 20 has a boo, boo and its not a honey !

Have a DLE 20 that due to a crash has some head fin damage. Part of two fins on the rear of the head have broken off and two of the fins on the front of the head have also broken.

In my opinion with prop cooling and in flight wind cooling, their may be enough fins left for proper cooling. I have considered replacing the head / cylinder, but have not bit the bullet yet.

Looking for some expert advise on whether I should do the replacement or not ?

Thanks fellows, for your time.

Run it until 1. it won't run, or 2. You can't stand looking at it any more? Then get that RE version!

Sounds like good advise to me. As long as it runs and with it being inverted in a plane, who's going to see the head anyways ?

Looked at the engine again and in my lowly opinion their seems to be enough fin % left for proper cooling.

They don't start running good until some of the fins are broken off?

If the engine still runs OK, then go ahead and use it. No sense shelving it because it had some fin damage. With it being inverted people aren't going to notice it is beat up some anyway.

$55 to make it look like new again. But it might not run any better with a new cylinder, ha, ha.

If it's otherwise in good condition, don't bother.

I imagine the airframe was in much worse shape

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh the airframe was in much worse shape. Much, much worse than just a couple broken cooling fins.
