Default Rebuilding Walbro SDC-80-1

I am trying to get a very old Brison 5.8 running. It is in great shape other than it has been sitting for several years. As I was replacing all of the fuel lines, I noticed that there was a lot of reddish gunk inside the fuel inlet of the Walbro SDC-80-1 carburetor. This led me to believe that I should overhaul the carb. In another post, the recommended kit for the overhaul is the K10-SDC - repair kit; however, after looking at the Walbro parts and service listings, the kit that I need is the D10-SDC - gasket/diaphragm kit.

I would appreciate any advice you might have. Do I need K10 or D10 or both?

Thanks in advance.

The D kit contains only gaskets and diaphrams. The K contains those as well as all the other parts including screen, inlet needle, springs, etc. Get the K kit and do the complete overhaul and replace all you can.

Pay attention to the the way the gaskets are placed.

On the pump side of the carb the diaphragm goes towards the main carb body, then the gasket and cover.

On the metering valve side, the gasket goes towards the main carb body the the diaphragm and steel cover.

I am still skeptical of the part numbers. I went to the Walbro website (http://www.ordertree.com/walbro/) to order parts and here is what I found: The K10-SDC is priced $8.42 and the D10-SDC is priced $8.49. If the K10 kit includes the D10 kit it would make more sense if it were to cost more. Guess I will just order anyway and see what I get.

Thanks for the advice. I'll report back when it gets here.

Look up the part #'s on Google or Ebay and buy from there.
