I dont know why my friend.

quote :

"As an expert in reliable 4-stroke engines, Saito engineers spent years developing the best-built 4-stroke gas engine. The power-to-weight ratio of a Saito engine creates a one-of-a-kind flying experience."

Maybe this statement is a bit of a stretch as they have a hollow crank journal and the could have used a smaller diameter solid journal and a needle roller in the main rod, simple but effective.

The final modifications to the crank/rod assembly

It should be back together this weekend for some running in followed by many hours of seizure free flight.

Thanks Alex.

My FG84 is totaly standard.
I will report on here how it behaves for sure.
I have filled 25ml of 0w30 motorcycle oil into the breather, and rotated the engne at different angles to lubricate it all on the inside for my initial startup.
Will be running 15:1 Castrol Power one TTS oil in the fuel.

The russian plane with the saito is a YAK-3U/Yak11 from CY model.
Bearcat is also a CY models with a moki 180.....still in progress

Yes, the russian planes are too similar , how you prime your FG-84 with carburetor inside the plane?

You are the King of the Radials .

I seem to have read that it does not need to be chocked....or at least you can close the throttle completly and chocke it like that........will see for it goes.
Otherwise, there is a chocke tool included with the saito that you insert at the low speed needle, and pull teh throttle body sideways....like on my older ENYA engines :-)

Whay do you guys do on these saito FG radials ?

I have my FG-60 still in the test bench running, there is not a chocke tool included, I choke the carburetor with my finger, I think is not possible start the engine by hand without prime. Is my first Saito radial, but with another four stroke OS engine that I have also without choke I prime pressurizing the tank by tube vent... but always some fuel get out of carburetor...

ok, so the 84 is different.
you screw in a chocke bar and pull it outwards.

I never seen before that method, my FG-60 maybe start with electric starter without choke, but not by hand, nothing says the manual about how to start by hand, and I dont like prime the engine pressurizing the tank because some fuel get out outside the carburetor littering the wood of the plane with gasoline... I need another better method...

Hi Sonnich, i wanted to comment on your pics you put up a few days back but the site kept freezing on me, I love russian planes and yours will have a great presence with 84cc of anger pulling her round!

The Bearcat is a nice plane as well, its a model I always wanted to build with such a history with its predecessors the Wildcat then Hellcat with a kill ratio of 19 to 1 versus Japanese Zero.
The Bearcat looked to be even better but the war ended before they got to see service.

looking forward to some videos mate!

Cheers BK

Electric starter, will start easily with no choke or priming needed.

They are a pumped carby with a diaphragm in the carby that pumps using the inlet vacuum pulses and these pulses are strongest when the carby is at idle Ive found. Turning the motor with the carby at idle position you will see the fuel come up the fuel line in pulses as the motors intake pulses operate the diaphragm.

It will start fine with an electric starter and you wont ever hurt your fingers either!

Yea, the Bearcat never realy saw any combat.
The Yak 3U/Yak 11 also was fished at the end of the way, and didn`t see any combat either.
But these were some of the best prop planes designed at the end of line for the piston engine warbirds.

I just found a Hellcat that looks realy neat.....would love to get a 60cc Saito for it.....if it fits the cowl. :-)
http://www.skysun-hobbies.com/produc...p?cid=31&id=63

Hopefully that engine will last and run great with the updated design and parts....

But have to get these 2 warbirds finished first :-)

Its from Thunder Tiger.
Unfortunatly the quality of the kit is not very good, and you have to beef up the landing gear area.....you also have to be lucky that they glued the wing ribs in properly.....some have had the wing delaminate during flight.
The tail also flutters if built stock.....so it is also a project build.

Its only 160cm in span.

I highly reccomend the Rare bear from hobbyking and use a 4S 1000mih battery.
It is an awsome flyer, and very fast....and affordable

Otherwise get the 3W beacat from German, and install a Moki in it :-)
