Bennet muffler repair question
I had a gear up dead stick on my p-47 and fractured the down pipe of the muffler,, I see that B&B sells replacement downpipes but what is the method besides drilling it to get the old one out?, and how to install the new pipe,,
I'm guessing they are just press fit in, any other type of sealant used?
I have a spare muffler from a 5.8 that uses the same pipes,, and they are loose,, can I get one of those out easily to use?
TIA

They are a pain to get out even when lose, They are threaded in and have some kind of lock tite or glue holding them.
It helps to heat them while trying to get them out.
On the one that is broken flush I would use a pointed center punch and punch it to the inside until you get it out and after that you will need to clean the threads with something.

Thanks for the tip,,I managed it to break it up and now have to dig it out of the case,,, I'll see if heat works to remove the down pipes from the other one,, otherwise I'll just order one
I'd really prefer a wrap around pitts for it but not sure which to order,, maybe you can tell me
I thought this was a brison motor, its one of the early sachs based motors w/ mechanical advance timing,, as you can see from the pics it has the offset screw holes, but I see others being sold as brison that the holes are inline with the exhaust port.
Another thing about my motor is the case isn't polished.,, it's sandblasted, never seen that before this motor either

I was thinking that if I had that problem, I would clean the joints good and use aluminum solder and a torch to reconnect them back up.
If one knows a welder, they could get them welded on too.
